It's set to be a pivotal night for Erik ten Hag as his Manchester United side host Bayern Munich in the Champions League with their hopes of making the knockout stages hanging by a thread.

United simply have to win to have any chance of making the last-16, but even three points won't be enough if there is an outright winner in the game between Galatasaray and Copenhagen. And the preparation could not have been worse for the Red Devils, who were humbled 3-0 at home by Bournemouth on Saturday.

Off the field fans are growing impatient as they wait for Sir Jim Ratcliffe's £1.3billion deal to purchase a 25 percent stake in the club to be confirmed. United are being linked with a host of players in the January transfer window, but Ten Hag's hands will be tied without fresh investment.

Here's a round-up of the latest news from Old Trafford....

Fernandes under fire as "cry baby" antics slammed

Chris Sutton has slammed Bruno Fernandes for behaving like a "cry baby" during Manchester United's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday.

"There was one quote in particular from Bruno Fernandes which summed up the alarmingly poor attitude among Manchester United’s players," wrote Sutton, in his column for the Daily Mail. "It was his admission that they thought it was ‘going to be easy’. United underestimated Bournemouth and they were schooled because of that.

"Then he earned a yellow card for acting like a cry-baby towards the end of this beating. That was his fifth of the season, so he’s now banned for Sunday’s trip toLiverpool- a fixture United lost 7-0 last season. It was more poor leadership from the captain."

Ten Hag questions attitude of United stars

Erik ten Hag insists Manchester United can beat Bayern Munich on Tuesday if they display the right attitude.

“I think we have shown in the last weeks that, when we are at our best, we can do it,” he said, backing his side to get the win they need. “We are not consistent, that's clear, but we can have very good performances and highs. When we get it, we are able to beat any opponent.

“The game againstChelsea, the game againstEverton, the game against Galatasaray. I know this team can perform at really high levels. But it starts with the right attitude. We have to work on that."

Phillips' brutal stance hints at transfer blow

Kalvin Phillips has been linked with a move to Manchester United despite previously explaining why he'd never sign for the club.

Shortly after signing for Manchester City ahead of their local rivals in July 2022, he said: “Going to United? No, there was never any chance of me going there. You know my loyalty to Leeds. My family as well – they’re all Leeds fans. I was honoured that United wanted me, such a big team and one of the biggest teams in the world.

“But no, I had to stay loyal to Leeds and choose to go to the other side of Manchester. It’s just the way I am, the way I think and the way I’ll always be. I want to be loyal to the people who’ve given me the biggest opportunity in the world. Leeds were the first team to sign me, I made sure that was one of the main things I’d do.”
