A girl accused of murdering 16-year-old schoolgirl Brianna Ghey told a court today she has "fantasies" and a obsession with serial killers.

Dog walkers found Brianna dead in Culcheth Linear Park, near Warrington, Cheshire, where the teenager had 28 stab wounds on her head, chest, back and neck. She was attacked with a hunting knife, a court has heard. Giving evidence at Manchester Crown Court today, one of the defendants Girl X said: "I’m interested in a lot of different serial killer stuff. They would keep parts of their victims. I thought I would introduce that into the fantasy [she shared with Boy Y]."

Girl X and the other defendant Boy Y, were aged 15 at the time, both deny murder. They allegedly extensively discussed killing the innocent schoolgirl, including boasting about how they couldn't wait to hear her scream, and wanted to take gruesome trophies from their murder.

Today, during questioning from Richard Pratt KC, defending, Girl X admitted to accessing the dark web to watch "dark materials". This included murder and torture videos, one of which she sent to Boy Y.

Girl X, the court heard, fantasied about killing Brianna. In conversation with Boy Y over text, the court heard Girl X said "they went on holiday" when she was referring to Brianna - who was on holiday at the time, the court was told.

The defence then said: "When you said they went on holiday, I didn’t have the chance to. What were you intending to say?” Girl X then said: "I was making a fantasy about killing Brianna even though I had no intent."

The court heard this afternoon that Girl X wanted Boy Y to think she was some kind of a serial killer. The defence asked her: "Why would you tell Boy Y you had killed at least two people?"

To which the jury heard, she replied: "I wanted him to think I was some kind of serial killer, just to add more to the whole fantasy thing." After a discussion about Boy Y buying knives, the intermediary requested a break for Girl X during today's proceedings.

The court was later adjourned until 10am on Monday.

The trial continues.
