Levi Colwill has claimed VAR ‘has something against him’ in the aftermath of Chelsea ’s slender defeat to Manchester United.

The Blues were unable to make it back-to-back victories in the Premier League after Scott McTominay’s brace, despite Cole Palmer netting for Mauricio Pochettino ’s side at Old Trafford. However, Colwill believed the Scottish midfielder’s second should have been chalked off for a foul.

The former Brighton loanee was attempting to stop him from finding the net when he felt a pull from McTominay. However, no foul was given - leaving Colwill wondering whether officials have a personal problem with him.

“VAR has something against me right now, I don't know what I've done to them,” he said after the game. “Against Brighton they tried to give a pen, and then when I got pulled [by McTominay] they didn't give anything.

“If I had pulled him like that they would have given a penalty. It is what it is. It was a frustrating night. We had chances that if we'd taken would have made the game quite different, but it's part of the game and we'll move on from it come the weekend against Everton.”

Colwill has not yet been given any punishment for his comments but he might be slightly worried should the FA or Premier League take any action. Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho produced some very similar comments during his second stint at the club.

He was left furious back in 2015 after a controversial draw at Southampton and claimed that there was a “campaign” against his side. He said: “That’s a campaign, that’s a clear campaign.

“People, pundits, commentators, coaches from other teams, they react with Chelsea in a way they don’t react to other teams. They put lots of pressure on the referee and the referee makes a mistake like this.

“We lose two points, Fàbregas earns a yellow card. In other countries where I worked before, tomorrow in the sports papers it would be a front-page scandal because it is a scandal.”

Mourinho was fined £25,000 for his comments and was warned about his comments by the FA but managed to avoid a touchline ban. Earlier this week, Erling Haaland avoided a ban for displaying his anger at officials - firstly by shouting at referee Simon Hooper and then posting "wtf" above a video of the controversial offside call in Manchester City's draw with Chelsea.

Similarly, Chelsea will also be hoping that they can call upon Colwill’s services going forwards.

He has made 17 appearances for the Blues this term and captained the side in the defeat against Man United. Pochettino’s side are back in action this weekend for their trip to Goodison Park to face Everton, while struggling Sheffield United are their next assignment.
