Perfume fans ‘ditch’ Black Opium for ‘addictive’ alternative that’s now 50% off
Perfume is always a popular gifting choice around Christmas time, and now Boots shoppers are rushing to snap up a best-selling fragrance that’s been slashed to half price. Usually costing over £100, the ‘addictive’ scent has been as part of the retailer’s Star Gift offers.
The sister fragrance to the much-loved Black Opium, is a ‘lighter’ version of the well-known scent, and is said to be perfect for both day and nighttime wear, according to shoppers.
The offers a ‘fresh, vibrant take’ on the iconic YSL scent, having been created by Black Opium Master Perfumer Nathalie Lorson, and award-winning Parisian mixologist Margot Lecarpentier. The newer scent boasts a ‘captivating floral gourmand scent’ with the signature black coffee base that Black Opium is renowned for, infused with zesty green mandarin and creamy fig resulting in a ‘mocktail-inspired’ spritz.

Other notes prevalent in the perfume include vanilla bourbon, jasmine, pear and cedar, which blend to create a scent that shoppers seemingly can’t get enough of.

The was only launched in 2022, and has already received a , with none of the ratings coming below three stars. Some say they’re even ditching the OG Black Opium for it’s cool younger sister, commenting: “I didn’t think I would ever sway from Black Opium (the original) and then this captured me. Literally, addictive and extremely pretty. You can wear this year - round , out to play or in the boardroom. A complete keeper.”
Another added: “I found it very refreshing and not too heavy. I think I may have to switch my Black Opium to this one. I love it.” While a third commented: “I like the original Black Opium but I find it can be a little too cloying and overpowering in the day time, particularly in the summer. This is a of what is undoubtedly the same scent. The fresh twist within the classically heady scent is a really pleasant take on the original. It wears well and the scent is still noticeable some hours later.”
People have said the scent is ‘addictive’ and ‘smells divine’ lasting for hours on the skin, while others say it’s great for wearing both day and night. One said: “I love the smell, it is gorgeous. I always get compliments when I wear it.”
“Love this , it smells so good on,” wrote another. “I can smell fruity and vanilla, making it so fresh and exciting so it can be worn during the day or evening.”

Some have said it’s perhaps a little too light for them, or not ‘different’ enough from the original, adding: “It smells lovely, but to me I can’t really tell much of a difference between this fragrance and the original. I’m glad I brought a small bottle because I feel like I would of been a bit disappointed had I of brought a full size bottle.” and “Much lighter than original opium. Nice for daytime.”
However, the general consensus has been overwhelmingly positive, with another shopper adding: “I adore the Black opium range and this one is the cream on the cake! It’s a gorgeous fragrance, perfect for daytime to nighttime!”
