Christine McGuinness has decided to explain why her family are opting out of traditional Christmas dinner plans after facing backlash from trolls.

The model and TV personality sparked negative comments from followers after she revealed her children eat fish fingers and chips on Christmas Day. She is sadly used to mum-shaming online and decided to pre-empt the comments she knew she would receive about her meal choices for twins Leo and Penelope, now 10, and daughter Felicity, seven, who have all been diagnosed with autism.

Christine, who shares her three children with ex Paddy McGuinness, took to social media where explained why her kids don't eat turkey and all the trimmings. She said: "Because autism doesn’t stop for Christmas day! They like what they like and I want my children to eat so I choose my battles and I don’t want one today!

"For anyone who may not understand this, food aversion can be quite common for those with autism. This isn’t lazy parenting or fussy children, this is sensory issues due to their condition that limits what our children eat. I am delighted they are very slowly exploring new textures. It may be basic and it’s still all beige but they’re happy and their tummies are full."

Christine recently shared her excitement for the festive period as she is finally able to enjoy a Christmas tree at home. The proud mum shared her past struggles with having the light-up tree due to her autistic children's sensory overload from the lights, textures and sparkles. In a video clip showing her decorating a beautiful tree in blue, white and silver, Christine wrote: "For 10 years alls I've ever wanted for Christmas was to have three happy, calm and content children."

She added that this year, her wish might come true as her children requested to put up the tree early. "For all the years we had no tree because the sensory overload and the changes were too much, for the times we've put it up and took it down 24hrs later, when we thought last year having it up for a week was a success but THIS."

She concluded: "A Christmas tree for the whole of December. WOW my babies you really are incredible with a little bit of time, patience and love, anything is possible." Christine, who also has autism, can often experience sensory overload, where their senses take in more information than her brain can handle. This can be triggered by intense lights or sounds.

In November 2021, Christine shared that she and her children, Penelope and Leo, nine, and Felicity, six, all live with autism. Later, she was diagnosed with ADHD. She has been honest and open about her experiences with both conditions and hopes to inspire others to do the same and break the stigma.

Last year Christine spent Christmas with her ex Paddy as their children didn't know they had separated. Christine and her TV star husband announced their shock split after 11 years together and said in a statement they will "always be a loving family" and that they would still live "happily" in their family home together.

Former Miss Liverpool Christine said it would be 'nice' for the children to see their parents 'being alright' and that she would never allow her children to see anything other than 'them being happy'. "I’m quite happy for him to be there with the children and it’s nice for them to see Mummy and Daddy just being alright. We can sit and have a cup of tea together and that’s fine," she told OK Magazine!
