Burnley are struggling in the Premier League but their fans are quids in when they count the costs of following the Clarets.

Research has found they spend less supporting the Lancashire outfit than supporters at any other club.

The study looked at the cost of the cheapest season ticket and a replica shirt, the average price of a beer in a local pub, together with bills for a hotel, taxi and a meal at nearby McDonald’s.

And Burnley, who are 19th in the Premier League, were the top scorers in the value for money stakes, thanks to a season ticket costing little as £335, a £55 replica jersey and pints for just £2.50.

Hotels for £91.72, taxis for £12 and £5.50 fast food also helped seal top spot. Surprisingly West Ham came second, despite being in London. Sheffield United were third, followed by another capital club Brentford and Wolves.

Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, Luton, champions Man City and Crystal Palace completed the top ten cheapest. The most expensive team to follow is Arsenal with the cheapest season ticket being £974 and £80 home shirts being key factors.

They were closely followed by Chelsea, and north London rivals, Tottenham, with Liverpool and Fulham next. The others were Man Utd, Everton, Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Brighton.

Zigmas Pekarskas, CEO of Smart Betting Guide, which carried out the study, said: "To decide which clubs should make the list, all usual expenses of football fans were taken into consideration, from season tickets to football shirts and overnight stays for those seeing matches in other cities.

"All elements of the day were also considered. Burnley takes the crown.”
