Sunderland's hilarious reaction to Newcastle tie sums up FA Cup third round draw
The Sunderland social media admin wasn't afraid to break protocol following the club's dramatic FA Cup third round draw.
In one of the ties of the round, the Black Cats will host bitter rivals Newcastle during the first weekend in January. It will be the first meeting between the two north-east giants since March 2016, when they drew 1-1 in the Premier League.
That season, it was the Magpies who were relegated to the Championship under Rafa Benitez. But in the 2016/17 campaign, they bounced back at the first attempt while Sunderland swapped places with them after finishing rock-bottom under David Moyes.
They've since been relegated to League One but are now back in the second tier, and currently sit three points outside the play-offs. But fans have had to look on with envy while Newcastle, with Saudi investment, are playing in the Champions League and fighting at the top end of the Premier League.
It's a notion not lost on whoever is running Sunderland's X account. They reacted to the draw by simply posting "Well, then" alongside a crying laughter emoji.

The prior post had been considerably more formal, saying: "We will host Newcastle United in the third round of the #EmiratesFACup." Sunderland have not lifted the trophy since 1973, when they famously beat Leeds 1-0.

And the club response was a good deal more light-hearted than that of their rivals. Newcastle offered nothing by way of reaction, instead opting to continue posting about Saturday's win over Manchester United.
But there was no shortage of fan responses to their posts. Even celebrity Newcastle fan Scott Timlin, star of reality show Geordie Shore, got involved by saying: "Youse will be crying like you were in the documentary on Netflix after the mags have run through ya."
The tie is almost certain to be televised, with Arsenal v Liverpool also expected to be given top billing. Holders Manchester City host Championship side Huddersfield Town.
