Strictly's Dianne Buswell 'gutted' as Bobby Brazier 'risk' didn't go to plan

Strictly Come Dancing professional Dianne Buswell says she was left 'gutted' after Saturday night's show, when the risk she took with Bobby Brazier didn't pay off.

The EastEnders star and his partner paid homage to the classic 1987 film Dirty Dancing with their routine for Musicals Week. They transformed into Baby and Johnny, played by Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze in the classic movie, and wowed the judges and viewers at home with their performance.

The Strictly pair danced to Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes hit (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life. However, during their energetic performance, Dianne and Bobby unfortunately struggled to replicate the iconic Dirty Dancing lift. Viewers saw Dianne unable to extend her arms and legs the same way Baby does in the film.

While they received mostly positive feedback, Craig had picked up on the fact they failed to pull off the move. He said: "The lift unfortunately failed in my eyes and the reason it failed is because you weren't far enough down on her hip to keep her up." After critiquing their routine, the 58-year-old dancer and choreographer said that it had been their 'strongest performances to date'. They scored 34 points from the four judges.

Earlier, Dianne revealed Bobby managed to nail the lift during their rehearsal – and was left gutted when his effort fell flat on the live show. Taking to social media, she wrote: "Gutted the LIFT didn’t go to plan like it had in most rehearsals. But I do have to say we took a risk and didn’t play it safe that dance was hard and so iconic that of course there was pressure to do it justice. And the feeling of just not quite getting it was a bit low for us."

She added: "HOWEVER Bobby wanted to challenge himself and so did I. Let’s focus on the amazing parts of the dance, the fact Bobby was leading me around the floor, his hips, footwork, expression and just overall improvement for a guy who started dancing only 11 weeks ago is incredible!" [sic]

"Your strength your movement has improved so so much and I’m sure so many people agree. We are so excited and grateful to be dancing in the semi-finals next week. But I also send my love to Nigel and Katya who have been incredible this whole competition." Some fans believed Dianne and Bobby should've been awarded more than 34 points- while others said their performance was still ' amazing.' One person said: "It’s doesn’t matter at all there were enough nods to that amazing film and dance it was amazing." a second person added: "Bobby and you have my vote."

A third person said: "Diane I loved this dance, dirty dancing is my favourite movie and you and Bobby looked like you belong in the movie, an absolute treat on a Saturday night. Well done."

The Strictly duo were one of the few remaining dance couples who took to the ballroom dance for the quarter-finals week. Sadly, actor Nigel Harman had to pull out of yesterday's show at the time after sustaining an injury. However, the actor later made an appearance in the studio.

Nigel's shock exit from the competition means that no celebrities will leave the competition this weekend – and there will not be a public vote. However, the judge's scores will count towards next week's performances.
