Liverpool will not attempt to sign Kylian Mbappe next summer once the Paris Saint-Germain forward's current contract comes to an end.

Mbappe, 24, has just six months left to run on the deal he signed back in the summer of 2022 and has already outlined his intention to leave the French champions as a free agent at the end of the current campaign. Real Madrid has been touted as the France international's most likely destination, but other clubs could attempt to hijack such a move.

Like Real, Liverpool are long-term admirers of Mbappe and have even tried to sign the forward in the past. And despite speculation claiming a fresh attempt to lure him to the Premier League was in the works, that now seems unlikely, per a new report.

According to Sky Germany, Liverpool currently have no plans to launch another attempt to persuade Mbappe to join them. Real Madrid remain his likeliest destination and could even be given a free run at signing the player who turned them down at the last minute 18 months ago.

While previous reports have outlined that PSG have not yet given up hope of persuading Mbappe to remain in Paris, it's claimed that they are 'relaxed' about the prospect of losing him given they are finally secured contractually against his departure.

Klopp has been honest when asked about interest in Mbappe in the past - both on his admiration for the player and the slim possibility of being able to fund a deal for the sought-after striker.

“We laugh about it," he previously toldSky Germany following suggestions Liverpool would try again to sign him. “I can say that I think he’s a really good player, but the financial conditions don’t suit us at all. I wouldn’t like to ruin the story now, but as far as I know, there’s nothing to it.”

He also shut down talk that a move could be being worked on behind the scenes, adding: “It’s possible that someone else from the club is preparing something and wants to surprise me, but that hasn’t happened in the eight years that I’ve been here. That would be the first time.”

Mbappe has plundered 14 goals in 12 league matches for PSG this term. The French giants shelled out £166million to sign him from Ligue 1 rivals Monaco back in 2017.
