Emmerdale has been transformed for Christmas as new behind-the-scenes clips teased the upcoming festive storyline details.
In a post on Instagram, the official account for the long-running ITV soap shared a video of how the Yorkshire set looked before and after it was given a winter wonderland makeover. The iconic Woolpack pub was adorned with light-up stars, while a series of wicker reindeers were in the grounds. Fans also speculated as to why a huge fairground carousel was set up on the set, with some suggesting that a Christmas fayre was on the cards for residents of the village.
“Christmas has come to the Village!” the caption read, and excited followers inundated the comments. “Beautiful,” one wrote, as another added: “Love this place for a very special reason.”

Show producer Laura Shaw confirmed that this year, the soap will take a very different approach, and will give viewers “edgier” episodes instead.

“What I can tell you is that, in the last couple of years, we've done a light, fluffier Christmas for Emmerdale, but this one is quite different in tone,” she said at a press event last month. “A lot of it is edgier for us for Christmas. I can tell you that definitely not every one of our villagers will be sat down eating their turkey with all the trimmings on Christmas Day.”

The village is ready for the festive season (emmerdale/Instagram)Show bosses have confirmed that the love triangle involving Charity, Mack and Chloe will play out over the Christmas episodes, and even into the New Year, with Laura teasing “there’s more to come”.
Dawn and Billy’s baby is also conveniently due around Christmas, while Tracy and Caleb’s affair is set to be rumbled on Christmas Day. Amy Walsh, who plays former prostitute Tracy, confessed she was nervous to be part of such a big storyline, especially over the festive season.

It's really festive and lovely on one side, then obviously really dark and awful on another, in true soap fashion. It's quite exciting for me to be part of something like that,” she told Digital Spy.
In addition to the drama, there will be some sweet scenes airing over Christmas, with ice skating icons Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean spotted filming scenes for the ITV soap, Show bosses confirmed that not only will the Olympic gold medal-winning duo be making a special cameo, but will be helping “a well-loved Emmerdale character” pop the question.
