Inside Piers Morgan's bitter long-running spat with royal author Omid Scobie

It’s no secret that outspoken TV presenter Piers Morgan and royal author Omid Scobie are not pals.

Since Omid, once described as the “mouthpiece” for Meghan Markle, was thrust into the spotlight after publishing his first book Finding Freedom about Prince Harry and Meghan leaving the Royal Family in August 2020, Piers has had a lot to say about him.

Blasting the book, which Meghan is said to have provided notes for, Piers branded Harry and Meghan “utterly deluded, tone deaf, whiny brats” and of Omid said: “If this book is supposed to be the pro Meghan and Harry one, I’d hate to see a hatchet job”.

Several wars of words have followed, with Piers calling Omid “deluded” in 2022 for his support of Meghan after he claimed she “had her voice back” after launching her Spotify podcast, Archetypes.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Omid wrote: “Once silenced by the institution, Meghan finally has her voice back. A voice that will be very familiar to those who followed her before meeting Harry. This time, however, she’s brought an entire movement alongside it.” Uncensored host Piers hit back: “Is this the ‘silenced’ voice that’s spent the last two years publicly trashing her family for $$$$$$? I’ve seen some deluded lickspittles in my time but this guy’s beyond parody.” The podcast has since been cancelled after it failed to bring in as much money as Spotify hoped.

Now Piers has laid into Omid once again as his latest book about the royals, Endgame, hit the shelves earlier this week. The book claims two senior members of the Royal Family allegedly expressed concern over colour of Harry’s oldest son Archie before he was born. Although the UK version of the book doesn’t name the royals in question, thousands of copies of the Dutch version - which have now been pulled from shelves - do.

Omid has claimed he knows the identity of the royals, but denies naming them in his English manuscript due to legal restrictions. So quite how they made it into the Dutch translation remains a mystery. Buckingham Palace is now understood to be “considering all options”, including legal action.

Piers has since named the royals, which the Mirror are not revealing the identities of, on his TalkTV show but said he “doesn’t believe any racist comments were ever made by any of the Royal Family”. He tweeted: “I’m outraged that the rest of the British media hasn’t done the same! Why should British people be barred from knowing what Dutch people know about OUR Royal Family?”

Calling Omid a “liar” about the alleged leak in Dutch copies of his book, Piers revealed he had also been personally namechecked. He fumed: "He’s a liar, and I’ll tell you how I know he’s a liar because he writes a bit about me in the book. Up I come three or four times. On one occasion he states as a fact that I had regular phone conversations with Queen Camilla. For the record, I have never had a single phone conversation with Queen Camilla. Now he says as a fact in this book, that we had regular phone conversations, that, I personally know, is an absolute lie."

Piers continued: "He also says that when I said on Good Morning Britain that Meghan Markle was Princess Pinocchio on air, that apparently she reached out to me – Queen Camilla – to thank me for standing up for The Firm. I had zero with Queen Camilla around that time at all… Nothing. Nothing. I did however, as I said publicly at the time, have conversations with several other members of the Royal Family and it wasn’t Queen Camilla. So I know personally, just from the little bits about me – are completely untrue. They are lies. So why should I believe any of this stuff?"

Describing Omid as a "heavy-eyebrowed little weasel", he claims the Endgame author boasts Harry and Meghan as his sources for the juicy new book – and even goes as far as comparing Scobie to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's Minister of Information during the Iraq war, Mohammed "Comical Ali" Saeed al-Sahhaf.

"Until Scobie came along, I never thought I’d see a worse defender of the indefensible than Comical Ali, Saddam Hussein’s ludicrous ‘Information Minister’ during the Iraq War who boasted that American ‘infidels’ were killing themselves ‘in their hundreds’ at the gates of Baghdad – as TV viewers could literally hear US weaponry loudly destroying Iraqi forces in the background," Morgan writes in . "But Obsequious Omid makes Comical Ali seem like a bastion of veracity."

Piers recalled Scobie previously lying about his date of birth – knocking five years off his age in a 2020 interview – and fiddling the truth about his use of private jets. "Why does Scobie’s fork-tongued bullsh*t about his own life matter?", he penned after noting Scobie's past fibs.

In another rant, Piers warned Omid "must provide proof" of his claims or face potential repercussions. He added: "It accuses two very senior members of the Royal Family of being racists - so now it’s been published, @scobie must provide proof of these incredibly serious & damaging allegations, or the only Endgame will be to his career and bank balance.”

Omid claims he is not responsible for the publishing error, telling Dutch chat show RTL Boulevard: "The book is in several languages, and unfortunately I do not speak Dutch. But if there are translation errors, I'm sure the publishers will have it under control. I wrote and edited the English version. There's never been no version I've produced which has names in it."

The former celebrity journalist told his Twitter followers: "Whether you like my work or loathe it, all I ask is that if you are reading coverage about what’s supposedly inside #ENDGAME, please also read the book itself. Incorrect and bad translations, snippets without context, leaks etc. do not tell the full or accurate story. Thank you."

He also denied being friends with Meghan ahead of his new book being released and said: "And let's get this nonsense out the way - #ENDGAME is about the current state of the British Royal Family. It's not 'Harry and Meghan’s book', I'm not 'Meg’s pal', the Sussexes have nothing to do with it, their story is a small part of a much bigger one you can read in 12 days." He insisted he is "not friends" with the former actress, but said they do share "mutual friends". However, their relationship hasn't always been so distant, with after he was harassed online.
