Piers Morgan's furious one-word response to Omid Scobie's bombshell interview
Piers Morgan has issued a seething one-word response to Omid Scobie over his bombshell Endgame interview.
The former GMB host last night announced the names of two senior members of the Royal Family identified in a Dutch translation of Omid's book who were accused of making derogatory remarks about Archie's skin colour. Piers added that he does not believe "any racist comments were ever made by any of the Royal Family". It comes after thousands of copies of the Dutch version were pulled for identifying those who allegedly expressed concern over Harry’s son Archie’s skin colour.
Today, Scobie appeared on This Morning as he called out Morgan after insisting that he was not responsible for the error. Hitting back, he accused the TalkTV host of not being "credible" and told Craig Doyle and Alison Hammond: "I don't know what he says, I only go by the reporting what I have… he has spoken a lot about his friendship with Camilla, the Queen. So listen I don't know what to make of that. I only go by the information I have. He says a lot of things about me that's not true, don't find he’s credible."
In response, Morgan shared a screengrab of Scobie and wrote: "Liar."
The Mirror has chosen not to name the pair. Buckingham Palace is understood to be “considering all options”, including legal action. Mr Scobie, who is due to give his first UK interview on Thursday on ITV’s This Morning, has denied including the names, insisting he was not responsible for translated passages in foreign publications.
John Terry takes swipe at Piers Morgan after Arsenal fan issued Chelsea reminder
Omid Scobie appeared on This Morning (ITV)This week, the Dutch version of his controversial book Endgame was pulled from shelves, after early reviewers saw that it named an individual who was said to have expressed "concern" about Prince Archie’s skin tone before he was born. On Thursday, the name of a second member of the monarchy, alleged to have made the same comment, was found in the pages of the Dutch edition, titled Final Battle.
The release of the book came after the Sussexes' bombshell 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle claimed a member of the Royal Family expressed “concern” over how dark their son Archie’s complexion would be. In the book, Mr Scobie claims that there were two royals who made derogatory remarks about Archie's skin colour.
When the Sussexes made their explosive allegations on Oprah, in an interview broadcast around the world, they set in train a public debate about who in the royal family might harbour such racially charged views. In a multicultural modern Britain such allegations against the monarchy generated debate on a matter of such public importance with Scobie's new book claiming to add to that public debate.
This week, Scobie claimed in interviews that UK law prevented him from revealing the Royals’ names, but a review copy of the book sent to Dutch journalists appears to plainly state the identity of the royals who allegedly made the remarks. Referring to letters written between Meghan and the King discussing the issue, the Dutch version of the book reads: "But in those private letters and identity was revealed and confirmed."
It's not yet known how the names ended up being included in the copy, whether it was a publication error or translation error, but Scobie has denied being responsible for the naming of the Royals. The Mirror has chosen not to publish the names.
Speaking to Dutch chat show RTL Boulevard earlier this week, Scobie said: "The book is in several languages, and unfortunately I do not speak Dutch. But if there are translation errors, I'm sure the publishers will have it under control. I wrote and edited the English version. There's never been no version that I've produced that has names in it."
Buckingham Palace did not respond to a request for comment. Xander, the publishers of the Dutch translation of Mr Scobie's Endgame, have put sales of the book on hold "temporarily" over what it calls an "error".
They said in a statement: "[We are] temporarily withdrawing the book by Omid Scobie from sale. An error occurred in the Dutch translation and is currently being rectified."
