A heartbroken woman has been banned from going to her own dad's funeral by her mum.

The devastated daughter admitted that she had a 'brutal fallout' with her parents five years ago over money. She added that at one point the three of them didn't talk for two years and that even today she is barely on speaking terms with her mum.

However, a couple of years ago she began speaking with her estranged dad again after he contacted her to say that he had cancer. Although the ongoing issue of money was still a problem, the topic wasn't discussed and she was pleased that their relationship had started to repair during their regular contact.

But the woman, who signed herself off as 'Grieving Daughter' in a heartfelt letter written to agony aunt Jane Green in the MailOnline, was dealt a further blow after her dad was admitted to hospital and her mum refused to let her see him.

She wrote: "My mom sent me an email – an email! – to let me know, and I rushed to be by his side as quickly as I could, only to discover that my mom had barred me from entering his hospital room." Sadly, less than two weeks later her dad died and she never had the chance to say goodbye.

Now, she claims her mum is refusing to let her attend the funeral and has been left speechless by her parent. She added: "For all that we’ve been through, I never thought that she’d be so cruel as to deny me my final chance to say goodbye to a man who meant to much to me. And honestly I hate her for it."

The woman was able to find out through a cousin when and where the funeral is being held, however. She is considering turning up at the back of the room in order to avoid any confrontation with her mum saying that she deserves a chance to honour her 'amazing' dad.

Although Jane sympathised wholly with the daughter's predicament, she advised her against going to the funeral. She said: "I am worried that your presence may cause a bigger drama that detracts from your ability to get the closure you need... What I believe you should do instead, is celebrate the life of your father with your own ceremony."

The letter also gathered hundreds of responses from other people offering their thoughts on the dreadfully awkward situation. One person replied: "We don't know the full details of the money issue as to why the mother has so much anger towards the daughter... I say just visit his grave site and let it be."

While another advised against Jane's words and said: "Go anyway, be low key and gracious. If mom acts out then she is the one who will look like an awful person," and a third was more vocal in their response and stated: "Horrible advice from Jane. You deserve to go to your fathers funeral and should go."
