Inside Meghan's friendship with Omid Scobie from 'mouthpiece' to being cast out

Royal author Omid Scobie was once known as the "mouthpiece" for Meghan Markle, but he's now tried distancing himself from the Duchess of Sussex.

Ahead of the release of his brand new book Endgame, Omid has spoken out about claims he is friends with Meghan. Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, he said: "And let's get this nonsense out the way - #ENDGAME is about the current state of the British Royal Family. It's not 'Harry and Meghan’s book', I'm not 'Meg’s pal', the Sussexes have nothing to do with it, their story is a small part of a much bigger one you can read in 12 days."

He also insisted that he is "not friends" with the former actress, but said they do share "mutual friends". However, their relationship hasn't always been so distant, with Meghan even said to have reached out to Omid after he was harassed online.

The journalist is said to have received threats on social media, with the Duchess of Sussex personally reaching out to him on his mobile phone to check in on his welfare. The call came about after a member of Meghan's team told her Omid had been dealing with threats and harassment.

According to The Telegraph, details of the phone call will be published in Endgame, which will hit the shelves tomorrow. The book promises to be an "investigation into the current state of the British monarchy".

Omid reportedly first met Meghan during Toronto fashion week in 2015. He's previously claimed to have given Meghan a "big farewell hug" in Buckingham Palace following the Sussexes final engagement as working royals.

Omid was once dubbed Meghan's mouthpiece and has often expressed sympathetic views to Meghan and her husband Prince Harry. "Mouthpiece, cheerleader, unofficial spokesperson, not a journalist, I’ve heard them all," he admitted while speaking to Town & Country.

In 2020, he co-wrote the book Finding Freedom which revolved around the lives of Harry and Meghan. The book focused on the couple's early relationship, marriage and departure from the Royal Family. It also detailed their relationship with The Firm.

Meghan sensationally admitted that a former aide gave Omid help with his first book, which was supposedly unauthorised. It emerged in court last year that Meghan did know about it.

While Meghan knew about Finding Freedom, Sussex insiders have insisted the couple had nothing to do with Endgame. Speaking to the Daily Mail, they also denied that Omid is a part of the "Sussex Camp".

Omid also said he didn't interview Meghan for his upcoming book. Speaking to The Times, he explained how he manages to get information about Meghan and Harry. "I have mutual friends with [Meghan], and that definitely helps with getting information and breaking details," he said.
