Inside Strictly contestants' earnings – but fees come with a catch
The heat is on in this year's Strictly Come Dancing, with only six celebs left after Angela Rippon's exit.
Bobby Brazier, Annabel Croft, Ellie Leach, Nigel Harman, Layton Williams and Angela Scanlon are still in the running on the BBC One show, ready to dance their hearts out yet again for the Glitterball trophy. While only one star can be crowned the winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2023, they all bag a tidy sum for their time on the show, reportedly pocketing thousands.
The BBC has never spilled the beans on how much contestants earn on Strictly, but it's rumoured that each star gets a flat rate of £25,000. It has been reported the fee goes up as the series progresses. If the stars shine in the first few weeks, their fee jumps to £40,000. Those who make it to the quarter-finals see their earnings skyrocket to a cool £60,000.
The star's salary depends how long they stay in the competition, according to reports (PA)The lucky celebs who reach the grand final reportedly take home a whopping £75,000 for their time on Strictly, according to The Sun. And while the winner of the BBC show gets to take home the Glitterball trophy, they're also awarded £100,000 for clinching the top spot, so it's no surprise that every contestant has their eye on the prize.
Former Strictly Come Dancing pro, James Jordan, 45, has spilled the beans that contestants get a pay bump when they make it to Blackpool in the ninth week of the series. Speaking on his show with HELLO!, James chatted about Krishnan Guru-Murthy's exit from the competition in week eight, revealing he'd just missed out on a pay rise.
Strictly's Molly Rainford and Tyler West fuel romance rumours while on tour
He shared: "This is the stage where the celebrities get their pay increase because it's incremental," and added that when the stars reach Blackpool, they get a "boost in their wages". Krishnan and his dance partner Lauren Oakley were booted off Strictly in week eight after going head-to-head with Angela Rippon and Kai Widdrington in the dreaded dance off.
Angela and Kai made it to Blackpool but sadly found themselves in the dance off again, this time against Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell. The judges - Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas - chose to save Bobby over Angela, making the 79 year old the ninth contestant to be sent packing on the series.
Speaking after her elimination, Angela thanked pro partner Kai and said: "I have to tell you that the last nine weeks have probably been the most terrifying, the most fantastic, the most glorious, the most joyful that I have spent for a very long time in my profession.
"I have had the time of my life, people keep making reference to the fact that I presented Come Dancing, but that was 40 years ago, that was a different time! He [Kai] wasn’t even born then! But actually being this side of the competition, this side of the programme has been really an eye-opener for me in so many different ways.”
