When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dropped their bombshell Netflix series, no royal was spared - not even the Princess of Wales.

In the explosive documentary, the Sussexes took aim at Kate and her formality when she first met Meghan at her awkward dinner in the early days of her romance with Harry. There were also accusations from Harry about brother Prince William, who was accused of shouting and screaming during a family meeting and trading stories about him.

However, just hours after the second part of the series was released, Kate was hosting one of her biggest events of the year - her annual Christmas Carol concert at Westminster Abbey. That year, a whole raft of royals turned out to support her including King Charles and Queen Camilla.

But rather than appear rattled by Harry and Meghan's claims, Kate appeared confident as she arrived at the venue alone to welcome her guests before being joined by William and their two elder children Prince George and Princess Charlotte. And not only did it appear business as usual for Kate, body language expert Judi James picked up on one huge "bravado" gesture from her that suggested she wanted to appear resilient and determined.

She told the Mirror: "There is the flicking of her hair back to sweep away from her face on the right side, which is a signal of confidence as she makes sure that her face is totally visible to the cameras as she walks into the venue.

"Tossing your hair about is always a sign of bravado and an intention to be strong and hold your head up high. She also walks with a wide stride. This is a hard trick to pull off in high-heeled court shoes, which again suggests a determination to look resilient and determined.

"She carries her gloves and her clutch bag in one hand to allow the other to hang free at her side. There is one moment when she appears to try to take the bag in both hands, which could form a wary-looking, self-protective barrier ritual, but she seems to self-police this gesture quickly, dropping her hand as though remembering she intends to project confidence. Kate's smile is congruent with rounded cheeks but it is a more characterful smile than her normal royal version."

Kate will again host her Christmas carol service this year, where midwives and nursery teachers will be among the guests in celebration of those supporting young children and families. Singers Beverley Knight and Adam Lambert, multi-instrumentalist Jacob Collier, performer Freya Ridings and singer-songwriter James Bay will be among the entertainers at the Westminster Abbey service, being staged on December 8 and broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.

The service will combine traditional and modern elements to encompass people of all faiths and none and will see the Westminster Abbey choir perform some of the nation’s favourite carols. This year the service will reflect Kate’s early years Shaping Us campaign, launched in January, which aims to highlight the significance of the formative years of a child’s life. It has been billed as a moment to thank all those who work to support babies, young children and families in communities across the UK.
