Prince Harry has revealed the truth behind Meghan Markle's tiara fitting with the late Queen Elizabeth just days before their wedding.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex tied the knot at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle in May 2018, following a whirlwind 18-month romance and a brief engagement.

Meghan looked breathtakingly beautiful in a simple white gown designed by Clare Waight Keller of French fashion house Givenchy, and the ethereal ensemble was finished off with a long white veil and a beautiful tiara.

At the time, it was speculated that the tiara was one of Princess Diana’s, and many have even suggested Meghan wasn’t offered the use of one of the royal tiaras, but Harry has cleared up any confusion by revealing his beloved grandmother personally lent his bride-to-be one from her personal collection.

Writing in his memoir Spare, the 39-year-old said he and Meghan were “touched” when his mother’s sisters, Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, asked if they wanted to borrow one of Diana’s for their big day.

However, just days before the nuptials, Harry was called by the Queen, who asked him and Meghan to attend a private appointment with her at Buckingham Palace.

“Shortly before the wedding, however, Granny reached out. She offered us access to her collection of tiaras. She even invited us to Buckingham Palace to try them on. Do come over, I remember her saying,” he wrote.

“Extraordinary morning. We walked into Granny's private dressing room, right next to her bedroom, a space I'd never been in. Along with Granny was a jewellery expert, an eminent historian who knew the lineage of each stone in the royal collection. Also present was Granny's dresser and confidante, Angela [Kelly],” Harry explained.

He then revealed the Queen, who sadly passed away in September last year, personally picked out five tiaras from her vault for Meghan to choose from.

“One was all emeralds. One was aquamarines. Each was more dazzlingly stunning than the last,” he recalled.

The former Suits star eventually chose an ornate art-deco style tiara for her wedding day, which was given to the Queen's grandmother, Queen Mary, as a wedding present in 1893.
