GMB's Susanna Reid slams 'desperate' Nigel Farage after his camp confession

Nigel Farage playing down his dreams of becoming prime minister one day in the future hasn't fooled Susanna Reid.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain today, presenter Susanna branded the former leader of Ukip, the Brexit Party and Reform UK "disingenuous" following the latest update from the I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! camp, where Farage, 59, is currently residing alongside the likes of Josie Gibson and Nella Rose.

During last night's episode of the ITV series, Farage - who has previously unsuccessfully attempted to be elected as an MP seven times - hinted that he could be prime minister in the future during a conversation with his campmates. As Made In Chelsea star Sam Thompson asked the controversial campmate who is favourite British leader is, Farage teased he might go for the top job one day.

"Really, in my lifetime, two Prime Ministers who've been really strong, who've changed the country: one's Thatcher and one's Blair," Farage admitted as he answered Sam's question. "I didn't like the way Blair changed the country at all but I have to admit he was a strong leader. Margaret was a very strong leader. They were tough times, but she changed the country completely."

Former EastEnders actress Danielle Harold then asked Farage if he would ever run for prime minister, to which Farage replied: "I don't know. We'll see. Depends how much of a mess the country gets in. Never say never... I honestly don't know. It's not an easy job."

On the start of today's edition of Good Morning Britain, the clip of Farage discussing his political future was played on air before Susanna and her co-host Ben Shephard discussed the controversial campmate's comments with guests Quentin Letts and Ayesha Hazarika.

"I mean honestly, Nigel don't be so disingenuous..." Susanna declared after the clip from last night's I'm A Celebrity was shown to viewers and the studio. "You're desperate to stand for prime minister," Susanna added, "What's all this 'I don't know'? That's what he's in it for!"

Following Farage's admission on last night's instalment of I'm A Celebrity, many viewers took to social media to accuse the former politician of using the ITV series to plot a journey to 10 Downing Street. "Farage is playing the least subtle game ever," one Twitter (X) user mused. "Like he's come on #ImACeleb because he wants people to look at him differently by getting as much airtime to "reach his audience" as he can so that he can become mainstream, lead the Tory party and become PM, but he SAYS IT OUT LOUD?!"

"ITV should never have booked Nigel Farage for this. Starting his PR campaign to be PM. Slime! #ImACeleb," another added, with a third quipping: "nigel farage loves the idea of becoming PM one day. see his face #imaceleb."
