I'm A Celebrity's Sam Thompson's brutal snub to girlfriend Zara McDermott

Zara McDermott has revealed she and boyfriend Sam Thompson have a pact that she won’t join him in Australia to support him whenever he is voted off the show.

The 26-year-old former Love Island contestant has been dating 31-year-old Sam since 2019 and is now watching him live in the jungle from the comfort of her own home in London. Zara had been competing on Strictly Come Dancing this year and there had been a chance she would have been dancing on the BBC while Sam was munching animal parts Down Under on I’m A Celeb.

But Zara was voted off Strictly during Halloween week - meaning she is now free to jet to Australia to support her beau. However, Sam told her he wanted his best friend, former The Only Way Is Essex star Pete Wicks, to join him in Australia instead.

Far from sounding annoyed, Zara agreed to the terms - and told all to Fleur East on her Hits Radio UK show. Fleur broached the subject, saying: “When we spoke to Sam, we were like ‘Zara now is coming into the jungle, right? To support you?’ And he was like ‘No, Pete’s already coming’.”

Zara confirmed this, saying: “Do you know what was funny, when I left Strictly, I was like ‘So, erm, should I pack my case? How’s this going to work?’ And he went ‘Oh no. Pete’s going to be coming.’

“And I said ‘Oh, but you could change your ticket? Maybe me and Pete could go? But he was like ‘No, no. Just Pete.’ And I was like… ok. But do you know what? It’s fine. It’s absolutely fine. I’ve got all the time in the world to live with him and see him. He want’s Pete at the end of that bridge and I respect it.”

Sounding perhaps a little envious, the reality star added: “I can’t wait to see that hug. What is that hug going to be?” Hits Radio shared the exchange via their Instagram page along with a caption stating: “we respect that you respect this decision… You’re a better person than us.”

While fans of Sam and Pete - who often share footage of themselves goofing around together online - thought the decision was correct too. One fan responded to the Instagram post, writing: “can’t break the bromance!” And another joked: “Pete and Sam are the true love story.”

Sam has been failing to win over new fans, however, as many I’m A Celebrity viewers have been struggling to stomach his attention seeking behaviour. Many have taken to social media to slam the former Made In Chelsea star, branding him “irritating”, after he appeared on screens and acted in a brash fashion seemingly in the hope of drawing the cameras.

The reality star raised the heckles of viewers the minute he appeared on the long-running ITV show, with one taking to X to blast him, writing: "I thought Sam was going to be annoying. I was right. #ImACeleb." Another agreed, writing: "Not even a hour and I'm done with Sam, so f****** annoying.”

Reality show fans felt the blond haired himbo was behaving as expected, with one writing: "Sam was so annoying in Made in Chelsea and nothing has changed." While another slammed him, writing: “Sam Thompson is such an attention seeking man-child."
