MAFS UK's final vow decisions as two unlikely couples split in huge twist
Over the past eight weeks, Married At First Sight UK viewers have been glued to their screens and gripped to the drama as the 2023 contestants navigated their way through the experiment in the hopes of finding lasting love with a stranger.
Through endless trials and tribulations, bombshell dinner parties, tearful commitment ceremonies, and heartbreaking home-stays, only six couples were left standing in front of one another for their final vow renewals this week.
Given that the 2023 series of MAFS UK has been the longest one in the E4 show's history – with a staggering 36 episodes in total – viewers have admitted that they're 'going to be lost' without the programme when it ends this week. However, the final vows have been endlessly dramatic, much to the delight of fans.
This week, viewers have seen the couples reunite to decide whether or not they want to continue on as a couple 'in the real world' or cut ties and end their relationship there and then. After an explosive couple of months, in the end, there were only six couples left to 'renew their vows '– Laura and Arthur, Paul and Tasha, Peggy and Georges, Erica and Jordan, Ella and JJ, and Adrienne and Matt.
Following a nail-biting two episodes which focused on the all-important vow renewals, only four of the couples decided to stay together. Here, we take a look at who stayed in their relationships and who decided to call it quits.

Paul and Tasha
Tasha and Paul clicked the moment they met at the alter (E4)
MAFS UK couple Paul and Tasha decided to stay with one another (E4)Paul and Tasha were regarded as one of the strongest couples since the beginning, with the dating experts praising the loved-up pair for being so open and vulnerable with one another. However, that all changed when Tasha's fiery side came out and her angered was directed towards her new husband.
After finding themselves in a small argument, things between Tasha and Paul became extremely heated and ended with Tasha 'screaming' in Paul's face and spouting hurtful words his way. After the vicious row, Paul insisted that his boundaries had been broken and he was, for the first time, unsure about Tasha.
The pair managed to turn things around though, and were back on the right track – despite Paul's friends warning him to 'run for the hills' after seeing Tasha's fiery side for themselves. When they were reunited after a few days apart, Tasha poured her heart out in her vows as she said: "Paul, you are one of the few people who has come into my life who I feel I can count on, who will never knowingly hurt me and who will never betray my trust, you bring out the best in me and help me open up and express emotions. I choose you now, tomorrow and forever."
And Paul agreed that their relationship was too strong to throw it away over their row, and gushed that he was 'so grateful' to have his wife in his life. In the end, the pair decided to stay together to see how their relationship would pan out in the real world.
Matt and Adrienne
Matt and Adrienne stayed together for their final vow renewals (E4)Matt and Adrienne were late additions to the experiment, but they quickly formed a strong bond over their shared life experiences and family struggles. Despite their shared trauma and despite the fact they found one another immediately attractive, the pair faced many struggles due to their opposing personality types and and their outlook on the future – with Matt holding hopes of one day being a father, but with Adrienne being insistent she never wants to have kids.
The subject of having children came up in their vow renewals, with Adrienne telling Matt: "At the start you said you wanted children but now you're willing not to have them for the sake of us being together. This makes me question if you are just looking at short term rather than forever."
However, despite their worries about future kids, Adrienne shared her hopes of continuing their marriage on the outside world after admitting she had deeply missed Matt during their time apart. And so, the pair decided to stay together and give their romance a go in the real world.
Peggy and Georges
Peggy and Georges decided to stay togetherDefinitely the fan favourite couple of the 2023, Peggy and Georges faced many ups and downs in their relationship during the experiment – from a lack of intimacy, pressure and doubts from Peggy's family, and Peggy's disdain for her husband's gaming career – but in the end, the besotted pair decided to stay together and work on their marriage.
Georges was left in tears as he made his vows to Peggy and made it clear he wanted to continue their marriage. He started by saying: "I entered this experiment with one sole purpose, to find love. Looking for something you've never felt before seemed like a huge ask, but then I met you."
"At times I wasn't sure I'd be good enough for you, because nothing seemed good enough," Georges told her, before adding: "But having seen your life and family I realise you wouldn't consider leaving all that behind if you didn't truly value me as a husband and life long partner."

"I've had time to think back and reflect on what's been the best decision to make for me and my future, Peggy the future does not work without you, being apart from you over the last few days has really made me realise I've got very strong feelings for you, the outside world is where our journey truly begins and we'll take it on together as a team. Looking towards the future, I see a successful marriage, a family, two kids, and happiness."
After much pressure from her family who claimed that Georges wasn't the right man for her, Peggy decided to go with her gut and told her husband: "They know what I deserve, and they want the best for me, this is by far the biggest decision of my life. I am an overthinker and I have thought over and over again over the last few days, whether we can work or whether this is game over for us. I may not trust easy, but I trust myself and I also trust that you'll prove everyone who doubts you wrong."
JJ and Ella
Ella and JJ split at the alter (E4)JJ and Ella were not an official married couple due to the fact they re-entered the experiment after finding a connection outside their marriages to Bianca and Nathantial, so the final instalment saw the couple's first official commitment to one another.
Despite leaving their respective marriages for one another, Ella and JJ both decided to call it quits on their short-lived romance after realising that they were not, in fact, a good match. After two very powerful final speeches, both Ella and JJ were left in tears as they said their final goodbyes to one another.
Ella told JJ she had endless doubts about their connection due to the fact he was not an open person – and being open and communicative was something she needed in a relationship. "I have needs and wants and I shouldn't just settle because someone accepts my transition, you're so special to me, I wanted it to be real but it isn't right now. I'll never forget you and what you've done for me, which will change my life forever," Ella told JJ.
Meanwhile, JJ told Ella that he hopes they can build on their friendship and remain in one another's lives. He said: "These past few days I've been forced to ask myself if you are the right woman for me and if I'm the right man for you. I think you're amazing, I've learned so much from you but as things stand I think becoming friends is the healthiest thing for both of us. You are truly an inspirational person and you'll always hold a very special place in my heart. I hope we can remain in each other's lives today and in many years to come."
Erica and Jordan
MAFS UK star Erica had some harsh words for husband Jordan in final vows week (E4)During the vow renewals Erica and Jordan both said they were committed to making their marriage work outside of the process despite the distance between them. Jordan told his bride: "Every moment with you feels special, I've developed feelings that are so strong it's scaring me, this makes me determined to do whatever it takes to make sure we have many more special chapters to live through together. You make me want to be the best version of myself and I want to be the best husband I can for you, I want our love story to have a happily ever after."
Although she had reservations about her marriage with Jordan, in the end, Erica chose to stay. She told her husband: "I care about you and I want you to be happy, but are we really doing what's best to make each other happy? I really do hope so. This is only the beginning and I can't wait to continue this journey together. Here's to chapter two."
Laura and Arthur
MAFS Laura rejects Arthur in savage speech at vows renewalIn a shock twist that nobody saw coming – least of all Arthur – Laura called it quits with her husband and coldly handed him back her wedding ring after being plagued with 'nagging doubts' that she had lost herself in the experiment while being married to him.
The pair had a rocky road throughout the process and often faced criticism from the group with several grooms calling Laura a 'golddigger' and claiming that she 'speaks down' to Arthur 'like a child'. Because of the criticism, and her and Arthur's clashing lifestyles and personalities, Laura said that she wants more from a relationship having felt like she carried hers and Arthur's the whole way through the experiment.
"I know we've grown as individuals in this process, but the more I grow as a person the more I grow apart from you. I've always been a fixer, but I've realised this relationship is something that can't be fixed. You helped me realise what I don't want and I'm going to give you this [wedding ring] back, but thank you for making me realise who I am. You'll be perfect for someone, but it won't be me," Laura said during the vow renewals.
Meanwhile, a tearful and visibly shocked Arthur told cameras: "That made me feel like crap, I didn't really see it coming, ultimately I was trying to make things work on the outside and I'm really gutted that she didn't feel the same way, we could have had something special."
It's not all over yet however, as viewers will get to see the group reunite for a final dinner party tonight, and then again for the reunion on Thursday, November 16.
