Prince Harry made sure to wish his father King Charles a very happy birthday and even got his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to share a special tribute.

The Duke of Sussex enjoyed a length phone call with his father, who also spoke to Harry's wife Meghan Markle. It's said to have been a "turning point" in their relationship, which has become frosty in recent years.

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are also understood to have recorded a special video for the grandfather. In the clip, the youngsters filmed themselves singing happy birthday.

A source told the Telegraph Charles was "delighted" by the gesture. Charles has only met his two grandchildren on a handful of occasions. The source also said the King's chat with Harry was likely to be a "nice surprise" for the monarch, who had not heard from Harry, either by phone or message, "for some time".

Sources have revealed that the phone call proves that "both sides have a desire to bury the hatchet and start to mend their relationship." The source told the publication: "As the King joined close friends for a birthday dinner at Clarence House on Tuesday night, he will undoubtedly have felt a weight lifted from his shoulders.

"Today, those on both sides hope that instead, Prince Harry’s olive branch on the King’s birthday marked a genuine turning point, offering an opportunity for both father and son to move forwards."

The birthday phone call was the first time Harry and Charles had spoken to each other since April, shortly before Charles' coronation in May. Harry attended the ceremony, but is believed to have flown straight back to America once it was over.

The King is reportedly still open to hearing from his son, who he refers to as his "dear boy". There is an open invite for the pair to meet whenever Harry is in the UK. It's believed Harry and Charles also made plans to talk again next week during their phone call.

Harry and Charles' relationship has been tense in recent yesterday and worsened after the Sussexes made a series of bombshell allegations against the Royal Family in their Netflix documentary. Harry then hit out at his family in his debut memoir Spare.

A source said: "The King was extremely busy but is polite and loves his son and his grandchildren, and not so mean that he would not take a call on his birthday." Speaking to The Sun, they continued: "There is still a long way to go to mend the rift created over many years — and the deeper issues caused by allegations in the Netflix series and Spare are not healed with a phone call."
