Decision made on third series of Reynolds and McElhenney's Welcome to Wrexham
The makers of the hit 'Welcome to Wrexham' docuseries have announced a landmark change that will see the next season of the show air in the Spring of next year.
The award-winning FX series has been re-commissioned for a third series following the success of the previous two editions, which have charted Wrexham's last two campaigns. Bringing the club to a newfound worldwide audience, the announcement of a new season has come before the finale of Series 2.
After garnering six nominations for the Emmy Awards for the inaugural series, the current series has told the story of the Red Dragons' fabled promotion back to League Two. However, one significant format change for the next series will be that the subject matter will likely be more timely with ongoing events.
The first two series have been broadcast in Autumn, which was a matter of months following the events they depict in both cases. Conversely, Series 3 could see the events of the business end of this current season broadcast with significantly more immediacy than in the previous two campaigns.

Theoretically, the run-in to this current EFL season could feature in Series 3 of 'Welcome to Wrexham' by next summer. With the Red Dragons currently sitting in second place in the fourth tier, it is possible that the show will depict back-to-back promotions if Phil Parkinson's men can last the pace.
The show's final episode of Series 2 will go out on FX in the USA at 10pm PT/ET on November 14, with the UK edition set to follow a day later on Disney. This episode is expected to show scenes from the day Wrexham secured promotion earlier in the year on April 22.
Speaking of the decision to change the format of the two-time Critics' Choice winning series for its next installments in 2024, FX Entertainment president Nick Grad said: "The wild global success of 'Welcome to Wrexham' is a testament to the courage and vision of Rob and Ryan, the dogged spirit of the Red Dragons, and the hope and devotion of the people of Wrexham."

The first two 'Welcome to Wrexham' series have combined with the star power of the club's Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to earn the team a cult following across the globe. Likewise, the impact of the FX docuseries on the club's standing has not been lost on the Red Dragons' chairmen either.
McElhenney told Variety previously: "After the first episode aired, I was grateful to hear from several people that there was a collective sigh of relief that we weren’t there to make exploitative television, we were there to celebrate them."
