Bride rages after entitled mum changes her 'tacky' wedding cake behind her back
A bride-to-be has been left outraged after discovering her mum changed her wedding cake behind her back. The woman explained how her mum insisted on her having a small cake for them to cut after hearing how they'd opted for a dessert bar or cheesecake.
Simply to please her mum, she decided to get some quotes on a small, traditional wedding cake as well - but just before putting their deposit down, her mum changed her mind. Taking to Reddit, she said: "She told me that having a cake just for us and not for guests is tacky, so we needed to get a sheet cake to serve as well. We were annoyed because she was the one to suggest it, so we cut our losses and opted to do the tiered cheesecake and mini cheesecakes we originally wanted,” she said.
With the mum still set on changing the couple’s mind, the next six months were fraught with tension, with the mum now pushing for the couple to get a groom’s cake instead. “My fiancé did not want one,” the bride recalled. “When I told her this, she said: "It’s really only a groom’s cake in name and not about what he wants.” I told her a firm no (multiple times because she wouldn’t give up).”

With the bride-to-be and her mum able to cut the tension with a wedding day cake knife, she told readers she had received a text from her mum the day before, who said she was at the bakery and had paid for the order. She continued: “I got suspicious because I never included her in those communications. I called the bakery and was told by a very apologetic employee that my mum had added a multi-tiered ‘groom’s' cake, with different fillings, flowers, the whole kit, and caboodle. We still have cheesecake, but I feel like it’ll look silly next to what is essentially a wedding cake.”

“My question now is: what do I do?” she asked readers. “She doesn’t know that I know. I’m furious and hurt. Obviously, it’s just a cake, but it’s not really about that now. She went behind my back and crossed multiple boundaries after I told her no. Am I being a bridezilla for not letting her have her traditional wedding cake?”
Readers were quick to respond to the pre-wedding day drama, with their feelings about her mum’s actions clear: “Your wedding, your rules. I'd have her cake delivered to her home, and get what you want for your wedding.” Another commented: “Cancel it, and put passwords on all of your vendors to put a stop to her meddling.” One reader suggested the couple leave her cake choice at the bakery: “Tell the mom to pick it up (after the wedding).”
