One woman had an astonishing response to being jailed for life for the brutal murder of her boyfriend following a harrowing campaign of abuse.

Natalie Bennett was convicted of the murder of her partner Kasey Anderson last month and sentenced today. Following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court she was found guilty of stabbing him death a week before his 25th birthday in March of this year. The 47-year-old slashed him several times with a knife before plunging it into his heart.

The court heard she tried to stab him in the head as he lay fatally injured on the neighbour’s driveway begging for help. The Liverpool Echo reported that Mr Anderson had been telling a 999 call handler that he was dying. Evil Bennett then lied to police when they arrived, claiming that he had come to her home in Croxteth, Liverpool, with the stab wounds.

During sentencing Denis Watson KC said he believed Bennett had been continually abusive towards Mr Anderson, leaving him with black eyes. Then, how on the fateful day in question, they had an argument before she turned violent and he tried to fight back.

She initially showed no reaction as she was given a life sentence, with a minimum of 18 years behind bars, but did stick her thumb up as she was led down to the cells. It was thought this was to her dad, who had been in the public gallery.

Sentencing, Judge Denis Watson KC said: "Your relationship with him began some five years ago, when he was about 19 or 20 and you were 42. It was a volatile relationship, and his family watched with increasing despair as he changed from happy go lucky to someone who drank, took drugs and whose mental health deteriorated."

"His family saw him with injuries and black eyes on many occasions. His family were convinced, correctly in my view, that you were responsible. I am sure that you were violent to him on a regular basis. Your influence over him was substantial. He was besotted with you. He always forgave you. You and he had a prolonged argument. The precise details will only be known to him and you.

"You picked up a screwdriver which you thrust at him, then a knife which you used to cause slash wounds to his ear, back and left arm and to stab him in the chest and lower left leg. You continued to be aggressive, making a sharp stabbing motion towards him close to his head - you called him a rat.”

The judge added that they had rejected any claims Bennett made to self-defence, adding that she had attacked first, before he tried to defend himself. This “made you [Bennett] so angry that you picked up the screwdriver, and then the knife."

He added: “Your actions have caused the waste of a human life." Richard Pratt KC told a jury of four men and eight women during the prosecution's opening that Bennett's next door neighbours "heard raised voices" coming from the address at around 5.30pm on Saturday, March 11, before finding Mr Anderson "banging and kicking at their door" roughly 45 minutes later. The 24-year-old was apparently "seeking help", although the occupants were described as being "frightened by the disturbance" and instead called the police.

Mr Anderson also dialled 999 and said repeatedly he believed he was dying, but claimed not to know who stabbed him. Such was the severity of his wounds that he was left vomiting, and at one point Bennett took over the call, claiming that “he’s come in like that”.

Suffering from multiple wounds, Mr Anderson was rushed to Aintree Hospital where he underwent surgery but died 20 days later. Mr Pratt said that Ring doorbell footage recovered from the neighbour's house showed Bennett "holding a knife to the head of the distraught and injured Mr Anderson" with her right hand and "using it either to strike Kasey Anderson in the head or at the very least hold it close to his head".

When officers arrived, she again alleged that he had arrived at her home "like that" and claimed that the first time she had seen him that evening was when she heard him banging on her next door neighbour's home. Bennett would subsequently give no comment to detectives under interview.

Crime scene investigators later discovered a clump of her hair on the floor of the house, which appeared to have been "forcibly removed" from her head. A "number of sharp implements" were meanwhile found in the kitchen sink, "having apparently been soaked in water at least" and with no blood found upon them while the address was said to have "smelled strongly of cleaning fluids".

Later during proceedings, Bennett claimed to still love Mr Anderson, and was said to suffer personality disorder, PTSD and be an alcoholic.
