Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Dianne Buswell has shared an emotional update on her beloved dad.

The 34-year-old Australian star previously revealed on social media that her father Mark had been unwell, and she explained what had been going on during a Q&A on YouTube with fans last month. “I thought I would be very upfront and honest with you all. Last week I got some news about my dad’s health and I won’t go into detail, but obviously that affected me,” Dianne said, as she revealed why she had been visibly emotional during the live show.

“Being away from home and not being able to support and help your family in a time of need is quite a difficult thing so I did struggle a little bit last week in terms of that,” the pro dancer, who is partnered with EastEnders star Bobby Brazier, added. In a new update on Instagram, Dianne posted a picture of her dad in a hospital bed, wired up to a machine, surrounded by bright balloons. “Love you so much dad. Sending all my healing wishes and energy your way,” she wrote, sweetly calling her father her “hero”.

Speaking about her dad’s health diagnosis with her followers last month, Dianne admitted there was a “little road ahead” for him, but she firmly believed he was “going to be fine”. The dancer said her mum and dad, who live in Banbury, Western Australia, had plans to head to the UK for Christmas, but that wouldn’t be happening after her father was taken ill.

“There is a little road ahead for my dad but I believe 100% he is going to be fine and we are all going to get through it together,” she continued, adding that she would be heading to her native Australia at the end of the year. Dianne confessed she was sad her family wouldn’t be able to watch her perform on Strictly, and asked for her fans to give a “little thought or prayer” for her beloved dad.

“My dad is the sweetest, kindest man you will ever meet and the one thing he really wants is for me to keep going and to keep dancing my little heart out and doing what I love because that makes him the absolute proudest,” she tearfully added. She dedicated her performance on the show to her dad, and said she was going to do an “amazing job every single week”.

Dianne also shared a picture of a text message he had sent her before her performance last month, and in it, he joked that judge Craig Revel Horwood would be giving her a good score. “To my dearest lovely Dianne. I wish you all the best of luck for tonight’s concert, hope you and Bobby have a great dance tonight if Craig give you an 8 you are bound to get top 37 tonight. Love you more. Daddy,” he wrote.
