Choosing a baby name can be one of the hardest decisions for parents to make. It's something your child will in most cases be stuck with for life, and while it's a personal decision, it must be something parents agree on.

One man has revealed his wife, who is pregnant with twins, is planning to name their babies after guns - and expressing his feelings towards the name has led to his marriage "imploding".

As he vehemently opposed the names, he claimed his wife told him to "get over it" and now won't speak to him.

"My wife comes from a redneck area with a lot of (in my opinion) very weird gun culture. She has a small gun collection herself but she only keeps one of her handguns in our home for home defence and the rest are in a storage unit. She does this for my sake because she knows guns make me uncomfortable, and I keep my small Funko Pop collection in that same storage unit because she thinks they're creepy," he detailed in an anonymous Reddit post.

Because she grew up with guns, she now wants that to reflect on her twins, much to her husband's dissatisfaction. He added: "She's now pregnant with twins. We're not sure of the genders but when we started talking about names, we both agreed that the other retained veto power.

"Once we started talking she said she was dead set on naming a girl 'Remington' or a boy 'Colt'. I vetoed both citing how uncomfortable I am with guns, and she said it was just a name and I could get over it. She said that I already got to name our first, which is an exaggeration but our first did end up with a modified version of my mom's name."

Trying to persuade her husband, she suggested they could go by nicknames instead and suggested "Remy" and "Colt" short for Colton. He then told her that he wouldn't mind Colton as a middle name but would never refer to "Colt". The couple have now argued over the name choices and the husband has been left miffed by his wife refusing to speak to him.

"She called me unreasonable and dropped the conversation. Now she's going on a 'name boycott' by refusing to talk about names with me until I agree to Colt or Remington as a possible first name. I told her that this is my hard boundary, no gun names and that's final. She called me a 'snowflake soyboy' (which is very weird because other than guns I'm a very typical manly dude) and is threatening to divorce me and keep me out of the hospital so that she can name them whatever she wants."

He has asked others online if he's an a**hole for going against what his wife wants, and is panicking that he might lose his wife and future children over his own "stubbornness". He then shared an update on his situation and that his wife apologised for threatening to divorce him.

He further detailed the names they had finally decided on and said: "Eventually we came to Colton John and Samuel Michael (Micheal is her deceased grandfather's name so it’s very meaningful) and Remy Annabelle and Kimberly Eliza for our maybe girl names. I'm well aware she will call Kimberly 'Kimber' and Colton 'Colt' but sometimes we need to compromise and they'll be Colton and Kimberly to me unless they tell me otherwise."

However, people flocked to the comments to raise their concerns. One Reddit user wrote: "I find her attitude very disrespectful and disturbing. Name calling and threatening to keep you out of the hospital over names is not rational. I strongly urge marriage counselling," while another added: "Sorry but threatening to keep you from seeing your child born over a name? That's pretty horrible. Is it always her way or no way? I hope this is an isolated incident but she is way out of line. Not a fan of Colt but thought of a horse more than guns. Remington isn't bad, and I like Remy, but perhaps a middle name and you can agree together on a first name."
