Love them or hate them, baby gender reveals are only increasing in popularity. Some people celebrate with a truly spectacular reveal - think confetti cannons, firework displays or even bringing in an ultrasound technician to discover the gender live, in front of friends and family.

Other people prefer something a little more low-key, and one of the most popular methods is to get a gender reveal cake baked especially for the occasion. The idea is simple enough; couples cut into the cake and if they see pink, it's a girl, while blue signals a boy.

Alyssa and Christian, from Missouri, US, decided to get a cake to find out the gender of their first baby - but it didn't go to plan. They documented what was meant to be a special moment on TikTok, and the clip has now racked up more than 30 million views.

As they cut into the special cake with wine glasses, the pair were visibly bewildered to discover there was no colour inside. While they managed to keep it together on film, Alyssa was left in tears by the major let-down and contacted the bakery to explain what had happened. Thankfully, the shop quickly amended the mistake and sent the expecting parents a second cake for free.

Alyssa referenced the mix up in a second clip, saying: "I swear to God if it's white this time I'm going to be so done." But fortunately, the coloured icing had been added this time around and the pair learned that they were going to have a baby boy.

Speaking about the incident, Alyssa said: "It was just an honest mistake. They were so apologetic about it, they made it right, they made me a new cake as soon as they could the next day and they didn't charge me for it. I didn't get my money back for the first one, which I understand, but I also ate it because it tasted good." Apparently, the mistake was down to a new employee at the bakery who wasn't sure how to add coloured fillings to cakes.

But while Alyssa and Christian have taken it all in their stride, many TikTok viewers were angry on their behalf. One person said: "That bakery did y'all so wrong," one person said. A second admitted: "I'd be livid," and another viewer wrote: "What's crazy is it's literally not about the cake. It's about the experience and they completely took that from you!"
