Mauricio Pochettino insisted Chelsea's win against Tottenham "means a lot" after his five-and-a-half-year stint in north London.

Blues boss Pochettino returned to Spurs for the first time on Monday night since his decision to join their London rivals in May. It was a happy homecoming for the Argentine, as Chelsea stormed to a 4-1 victory in the most chaotic Premier League game of the season so far.

Dejan Kulusevski took the lead for Tottenham before Son Heung-min, Eric Dier, Raheem Sterling and Moises Caicedo all had goals disallowed. Cristian Romero was then sent off after an awful challenge in the box, allowing Cole Palmer to score a penalty.

The second half was just as crazy. Destiny Udogie was sent off for a second booking, but nine-man Spurs continued to play a high line. Chelsea eventually took advantage of Tottenham's daring attitude, with Nicolas Jackson scoring a late hat-trick.

Although Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou was applauded for his willingness to attack, Pochettino took home the points. "I am so happy because the points mean a lot to us," the Chelsea manager told Sky Sports after the drama had ended.

"We are in a situation where we need to win points. I am so happy because we came back and showed to people that we had the positivity. For me the most important thing is the three points. It's Tottenham, but it's not more special because of that."

Tottenham had been big favourites to win Monday night's match after making an unbeaten start to the season under new manager Ange Postecoglou. Chelsea were 13th heading into the fixture and desperately needed a win to move closer to the European spots.

Tottenham remain second in the Premier League, one point behind leaders and champions Manchester City. Chelsea are up to 10th in the table, nine points behind Arsenal in fourth. Pochettino still has a lot of work to do in west London. He added: "We made too many mistakes in possession and Tottenham started the game with full of energy.

"After we conceded, the team started to play and played with more freedom. We didn't show our quality in the first 10 to 15 minutes of the match that we are supposed to have. The line of the defence was so high and we started to build from the back.

"We didn't have the patience to move the ball from one side to another and find the right moment. We ran into spaces at the wrong time and were disappointed at half-time for not exposing the space that Tottenham gave us.

"We didn't find the right moment to kill the game because the line of defence was so high. The most important thing for us is the three points."
