A Texas woman "got exactly what she deserves" after she was sentenced for torturing her boyfriend's daughter after she wet the bed.

A Brazos County Jury sentenced Jessica Bundren to life in prison after she was found guilty of abusing little Arianna Rose Battelle, who died from her injuries. Arianna's twin sister survived. “I’m relieved. She got exactly what she deserved. She took away my niece’s life and she deserves to spend the rest of her life having no life so I do feel like justice was served today and I’m very grateful for that,” aunt Courtney Onstott told KBTX.

She added: "We were hoping for life and that’s exactly what she got and I’m glad. Now (Arianna’s twin) doesn’t have to wake up every day and worry about whether her monster’s going to be walking around free or not." The jury took less than an hour to find Bundren guilty of abusing her 6-year-old stepdaughters in 2020. She had used a belt and wooden paddle to punish the children.

“The belt, the paddle, the floor, the wall, whatever it was you know that it was capable of causing death or serious bodily injury because that’s why we’re here. It did cause death,” said Brazos County Assistant District Attorney Kara Comte. In court, a medical expert said poor Arianna was "tortured" and "beaten to death." They said the young girl " may have been sexually assaulted as part of that process."

The defence argued it was hard to determine who was the source of the injuries and said she did not intend to harm the child. They blamed the girls' father for what happened. The expert added: "Her death was slow and painful and in a way looking at it scientifically you don’t know and you can’t put blame or fault as to who may have inflicted those injuries or the majority of the injuries that ultimately took Arianna’s life.

The girls’ father, Justin Hopper, 29, was charged with two counts of Injury to a Child with intent to cause bodily injuries in December 2020. He is due in court later this month. During a sentencing hearing for the 40-year-old Texan, a forensic nurse assigned to Arianna's twin said it was the worst case she had ever seen and added: "I’ve never quite seen this much bruising on any of my patients, it was quite concerning... It was difficult for her to move."

The hearing also heard testimony from the surviving twin's counselor before concluding with a heartbreaking letter from the little girl saying she remained broken by what had happened to her.
