When one woman opened the fridge so she could see if there was anything inside that would tempt her for breakfast, a pot of her husband's semen was the last thing she was expecting to be confronted with. The woman was so taken aback by the little pot, which was situated next to her favourite Greek yoghurt, that she had to run to the bathroom where she vomited.

The woman explained that instead of "discreetly" putting his sample in the top door compartment, her husband had displayed it "front and centre", so that it was the first thing she saw when she opened the fridge at 7am. Writing for Kidspot, the anonymous writer said: "I take out my yoghurt and put a dollop on my muesli, trying not to think about what I've just seen. I'm a mother of three for heaven's sake. I've changed diarrhoea explosions and navigated my way through my fair share of ickiness after all."

However, the woman, who is from Australia, was "haunted" by "visions of the blob in the fridge", and so had to make a break for the bathroom. But even though it was a shock to see it when she opened the fridge, the reason it was there eventually made sense to her.

Because the couple didn't want anymore children, her husband had offered to "get the snip", and although she "gladly" encouraged him, she had no idea what she was in for. The mum explained that it had been 12 weeks since his vasectomy, and the reason the husband had placed the specimen in the fridge was to find out whether it had been effective. She added: "It will be a nice feeling being able to be intimate without the worry of contraception after so many years of it being back of mind."

Despite the ill-placement of the specimen, which caused a huge physical reaction, the mum was "secretly thrilled" about it - because it meant their "contraception journey" was almost at an end.

Going on to explain how vasectomies work, she explained that after the procedure, her husband was advised by doctors to "ejaculate at least 20 times or wait about three months before having unprotected sex". She continued: "Before you do, you need a post-vasectomy semen analysis to check whether the procedure was effective. No sperm should be detected in at least two samples taken two to four weeks apart. "

However, she did have one gripe with her husband after discovering that he hadn't needed to put his sample in the fridge at all. After reading up on post-vasectomy care, she found out he was meant to get the sample to the pathology laboratory "as soon after ejaculation as possible".

She added: "Thank you, husband. I've wasted my breakfast for nothing, and even more irritating - I might never look at Jalna yoghurt the same."
