Big Brother's Rebeckah Vaughan says show is 'falling down' after axing key part

Big Brother's decision to axe the 24-hour livestream hasn't impressed former contestant Rebeckah Vaughan.

Before the show was axed from screens in 2018, viewers of the programme were able to tune in to a live stream and watch the housemates around the clock. Nowadays, the live stream is only available at certain times when the main programme has been on the air.

Rebeckah who starred on the programme in 2011 and finished 14th believes that the decision to spike the livestream will create an unfair narrative for housemates. Speaking to the Mirror, Rebeckah opened up about what viewers won't be seeing on the main programme.

"I think if I'm honest that's where Big Brother is now falling down," she explained before adding: "I think Big Brother will never achieve the ratings that it had until they bring back the 24-hour live stream so viewers can watch them. That was the good thing about the experiment, you can't sleep lying there, you see things that haven't been narrated, it's not part of what the editors wanted us to see, that was technically real life, that's what we were sold. It's just changed."

But Liverpudlian Rebeckah thinks bosses are trying too hard with the series as she explained: "The most simplest way of making it better is making it how it was in the first year, that's when it was at its height. I feel like what they're trying too hard when all they need to do is go back to basics.

"They've tried to take chunks out of successful programmes such as Love Island or I'm A Celebrity. They don't need to do all that, they just need to go back to year one of Big Brother, the social experiment, normal people and 24/7 access for the viewers." 12 years after her stint on the show, Rebeckah occasionally keeps in touch with the showbiz industry but her main focus is her business, No More Kennels – a luxury retreat for dogs when their owners are away.

"It's a blessing," she saved of her new career before adding: "Dogs saved my life. I feel that they deserve anything, everything or whatever I can give them, I will give. I just want to save as many dogs as possible. I'm really lucky, I've had some fantastic charities who have approached me.

"I feel like the business that I have wouldn't be as amazing as it is if I didn't have as many friends that I've made in the industry. I'm so lucky for the amount of press it's had and I appreciate that. It's only because people have met me and gone 'Oh my God, everything I thought about you, it's the opposite, it kind of helps you because I hated you for ten years!'"

Although Rebeckah admits she loves her new role, she also revealed how tough the industry is, especially after the coronavirus pandemic which saw her business close for a period of time. "It was terribly sad," she said before adding: "Every day I count my blessings that I'm able to do this as a career. I love being able to work with dogs that don't trust people, building up that trust with a dog that's been through the mill and it's scared.

"It's worth more than any red carpet event, any money, I've ended up with all sorts of dogs in my house!" Rebeckah went on to say that while she still dips her toes in showbiz, which she loves and appreciates, she joked: "Really, I pick up dog poo for a living!"
