Diogo Jota has warned the Premier League that Liverpool have rediscovered their ruthless streak.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds look back to their best after being dogged by inconsistency last season and are about to embark on a sequence of games that gave them huge problems. Liverpool dropped points against five of the bottom six when finishing fifth - and after the visit of Nottingham Forest to Anfield they go on to meet Bournemouth, Luton and Brentford before the next international break.

Jota scored twice in a 3-2 win over Steve Cooper’s side in the corresponding fixture - but it was in October last year that Forest inflicted a damaging 1-0 victory over the Merseysiders at the City Ground. Jota feels Klopp has addressed the issue. He said: “I think we have developed a lot as a team - and we are focussed now on this, let’s say, new idea.

“Obviously with the midfield now being a lot different, we have a different style of play that maybe suits us when we play against a lower block and more defensive teams.

“It’s getting better. The results are the most important thing and we have been doing things right up until now and we want to continue in that way.

“Obviously people are expecting us to win all the time, especially these kinds of games, and we as professionals have to prove that on the pitch. That is the responsibility of playing in a team like Liverpool. It is the hardest part - but I believe here at Anfield we can win the match.”

Liverpool beat Toulouse 5-1 in the Europa League on Thursday night and have lost just once in 13 games in all competitions.

Mo Salah once again leads the Anfield scoring charts with nine, while Jota and Darwin Nunez have five apiece. But no fewer than nine Reds’ players have hit the target - including attacking midfield recruits Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch.

Jota said: “Having people who can score goals is helpful because, of course, that is the target of the game.

“Particularly this season, we have midfielders who are also scoring - and that is important because it gives us the chance to create and score from every part of the pitch.

“When I came here, everyone talked about Liverpool having the best attacking trio in the world.

“So I am not too sure if this attack is better, but everyone is different and we have a lot of variety. I think that as a team we are progressing well, although there are still some things to get better - and hopefully we will.”
