6 festive staples I'm hoping will be in H&M's Black Friday sales
If you have a look in my wardrobe, you'll find one or two investment All Saints gems from my teens and early 20s, some hand-me-down vintage numbers (gratefully passed down from my very fashionable mother and aunt that I cherish) and a celebration of, as a frivolous working girlie, H&M garments that I've accumulated over the years (among other brands).
From jumpers to pyjamas and dresses to gymwear, I have spent a good deal of time in H&M and consider myself a bit of a connoisseur of the brand (if I do say so myself) and so, of course, I am looking forward to the biggest (and possibly scariest) day of the year for many retailers: Black Friday, which will take place on November 24.
If it’s the same as last year’s bargain, a chance to get 20% off my shopping basket - as a member, it’s completely free to sign up and you get loads of benefits from doing so, read more on that here - with party season up ahead? Yes please.
Now, any chance I get to pop into H&M, I’ll take. And so as I came in to work in the city centre last week, I obviously had to have a mooch around my local Cardiff store to eye up any potential jaw-dropping outfits I could snap up come BF - plus, try and find the items I’d favourited online to see if they actually fit or worked on me. And I must say, I found a few gems that, come end of November (and if this year is a repeat of 2022, the week leading up to it for H&M), are heading straight in my basket.
Below I’ve detailed just a few of my favourite finds - from in the store and online - that I’m hoping will be eligible for discounts in the H&M Black Friday sale (fingers crossed!).
Kate Middleton swears by £19.99 rosehip oil that helps 'reduce wrinkles & scars'
Now, just to pre-warn you - in the best way - there are a lot of sparkles on the horizon...
This was possibly my favourite combo for party season. Don't get me wrong, I love a nice dress, but give me some comfortable trousers and a shirt and I'm a happy girl. Especially if it's got sequins. Retailing at £34.99, these trousers have an elasticated waistband - hello food buffet - and a gorgeous sequined mesh finish in black that had a good thickness. They weren't itchy, like some sequin trousers can be, and being a straight fit, really flattered the ensemble.
I LOVED these two items together and sang 'party' at me (Eve Rowlands)This dark grey shirt (£37.99) wasn't fitted but it fit in all the right places for me personally and although I preferred it slightly unbuttoned, it would look fab done all the way up with something like a big chain necklace. While these two don't necessarily come together (one being black, the other being dark grey), I think they worked SO well together.
I put mine with my trusty Dr Martin boots but this look can definitely be amplified with a pair of pointed boots or heels or dressed somewhat down with some trainers.
I felt suave in this outfit - and a little spicy thanks to the sheer top (Eve Rowlands)This sheer and sparkly top (£9.99) paired with a satin black midi skirt (£19.99) is my next favourite find and while I put the combo with tights and (again) DMs, heels would give this outfit a more sophisticated look while trainers would give it a relaxed edge. The skirt was so comfy and had an elasticated waistband, which was super comfy and I liked that the fit of it was relaxed - it wasn't too tight around the tummy nor the hips (which is, unfortunately, where most clothes attach themselves to on my body) and the length was perfect.
This sheer top was gorgeous to wear and it was stretchy and actually quite soft to touch and with a crew neck would be easy to accessorize. And if you're not a huge fan of getting your arms out, this is a great little top to give you a gorgeous silhouette. If I hadn't been in a rush to grab my train home, I would have bought it then and there - but the universe was telling me to wait til Black Friday, obviously. So wait I will
This next one may be a little too casual for some - or on the flip-side bold for others - but I think with the right additions, it would be great for a Christmas do because: hello, silver trousers.
Silver trousers are trending right now and so of course I had to try them (Eve Rowlands)I'm a sucker for a band-tee, so this Kurt Cobain one (£14.99) I was a big fan of. I'd also been wanting to try on a pair of silver trousers for ages and I found this straight leg number for £27.99 in the shop and was dying to see what the hype was about. My verdict? They're pretty cool. I can see why they're loved. They're bold. They certainly a statement. They're slightly tin-foil-like but I think I enjoy that. They were also really quite comfortable for trousers that looked a little stiff when I first picked them up. But I slid into them pretty easily and they had stretch, which is always a plus. The only downside (or not for some) is that I'd need a belt. They fit my legs but there was a gaping hole at the back. But that's just me.
This dress comes in bronze, black, grey or green (Eve Rowlands)I know there's a bit of a metallic theme here, but this bronze dress screams festive party and with a velvet finish underneath the sequins it's a great dress to have a dance in as it won't rub. Designed with a rounded neckline and long flared raglan sleeves, you'll definitely be eyecatching in this number and while it's not too expensive, at £37.99, in the Black Friday sales, every little helps. It also comes in black, grey and dark green.
Paired with some boots, this would be a gorgeous party dress this Christmas (H&M)Sticking with dresses, this gorgeous cerulean blue number was one I went in search for during my visit but alas could not find in store. It caught my eye because it has a 70s-esque cut to it with the bell sleeve and bright colour that would make a change from the standard black, silver and gold you regularly see when it comes to sparkles. Costing £44.99, shoppers who have bagged this little blue number have sung its praises - claiming they have had a ton of compliments from wearing it. "Unbelievably pretty! Put a nude slip under it for a party & had so many compliments! A*," said one. I'm sold.

If you're sorted for trousers but are in need of a top to go with them, this asymetic, draped one-shoulder top in red (£24.99) is sassy and festive. Only available online the fitted jersey top has a wrapping detail over the bust creating a gorgeous draped silhouette and sweatheart neckline. With a pair of leather trousers and a bold cherry lip, it'll help make an eye-popping statement at your Christmas do.
Now, no outfit is complete without accessories and these gold rhinestone earrings are sure to elevate a boring outfit into one hell of a statement. But if you're more of a bag-gal, this silver bagette is cute and just about big enough to fit in all the belongings you need. If you want your hands free, however, H&M's gold leather crossbody bag is a little more pricey at £97 but it will certainly add flair to your ensemble - plus, with the dimensions 18 cm x 6 cm c 16 cm, you can fit loads in there.
Of course, H&M isn't the only shop that is gearing up for all the yuletide celebrations on the horizon - New Looks has an abundance of gorgeous going out clothes from sequin co-ords to velvet midaxi skirts.
River Island too will get you suited and booted in style. This green velvet mini dress with a tie neck is currently trending (£45) as is this red satin maxi skirt (£30 - which comes in an assortment of colours). Marks & Spencer will always come through with fun and festive garments too, like this Recycled Blend Sequin Spot Print Jumper (£29.50) and Sequin Mini A-Line Skirt for £29.50.
However, if you've been inspired by H&M's party selection, take a further look at its collection here.
