A Michelin Guide pub and restaurant has hit back at a fuming customer who told them she ‘wished she’d gone to McDonald’s instead’ - by telling her they ‘also wish’ she had opted for the fast-food chain.

The White Bull in Lancashire is ranked number one restaurant in all East Lancashire town on TripAdvisor and is narrowly outside the top 20 for the whole of Lancashire. The plush attraction boasts a Travellers Choice 2023 Award for being among the top 10 percent of all listings on Tripadvisor.

But one customer was not impressed and reviewer Sheila B wrote: “We were 10 minutes late arriving because of traffic holdups and oh boy were we punished for it. We got our drinks then we waited. We ordered. I am shellfish allergic and was told I couldn’t have chips because prawns were fried in the same pan as the chips. I settled for burger with mashed potato. The mash was obviously a scooped out baked potato. Only two staff waiting at tables and they were both very slow. So disappointed as this was supposedly to be a treat from my son and his partner. Never again."

In response to her comments, which rated the value as one out of five, Lancs Live reports that the restaurant simply replied: "Hi Sheila, I wish you had gone to McDonald's also. Best regards."

In the 2023 Michelin Guide, reviewers said of the pub: “This neighbourhood pub’s menus cover everything from bar nibbles to pub classics; they offer lunch, afternoon tea and dinner – and even serve breakfast on Sundays. The endearing team take care in everything they do, portions are generous, and dishes not only look good but taste good too. The traditional Lancashire cheese, onion and ale pie is a must-try."
