Viewers of This Morning have been left horrified by a beauty segment in which a woman placed her fingers inside another person's mouth as part of a discussion on a new beauty trend.

Hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary were joined by celebrity facialist Dimple Amani on the ITV breakfast show on Thursday for a lesson on facial massages, and how they can be used to achieve natural face lifts and lymphatic drainage. The London businesswoman, who set up her own salon aged 20, began the procedure by demonstrating on a willing volunteer in the studio.

At this point, Dermot shared that he quite enjoys visiting the dentist appointment as he finds the process to be calming, prompting Alison to encourage Dimple to put her disposable gloves and start the procedure.

"It's really relaxing," the beauty therapist explained, placing her fingers inside the cheeks of the volunteer, Sophie. "Often we hold a lot of tension around the jaw area... It's really important to destress those muscles." She then proceeded to vigorously massage the gums and cheeks of her client, while keeping the mouth stretched open with her thumbs.

Not everybody found the treatment to be so relaxing, however. A number of This Morning viewers took to Twitter to share their unimpressed reactions to the handsy facial, with one fan even slamming it as "repulsive" and "gross."

"I really couldn't be dealing with someone's fingers in my mouth like that," another person said, while others described the facial as "weird" and "creepy."

If that wasn't enough to give viewers the shivers, Alison introduced the segment by placing her own fingers inside Dermot's mouth and asking if he'd like to be massaged that way.

"What I’d really like, is to have one without being offered, whether I’d have one or not," he quipped back. "Almost, some might say violated!"

Dimple's method, which is called the Lympathic Drainage Facial Sculpt, is available to experience for £145 at the Define London salon in Victoria or at Harrods in Knightsbridge. The technique involves using bespoke Amani facial techniques to activate the lymph nodes to help rid the body of toxins and reduce water retention. The aim of the procedure, which has reportedly been popular with celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner, is to leave the client with a glowing complexion and a firmer skin texture.
