Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's trip to "reignite their spark" helped reconnect "enhanced intimacy" between the pair as they dodge couples' therapy, an expert has said.

Spotted walking hand-in-hand on the tiny island of Canouan in the Caribbean after a busy week of engagements to mark World Mental Health Day earlier this month, the couple escaped with one another for an intimate getaway without their two children, Archie and Lilibet.

Yesterday we reported that it was revealed Harry "wanted to whisk Meghan away for some couple time, and try to reignite the spark between them" after rumours their marriage was "strained". It was also reported that the couple wanted to get away with each other to "figure out a plan moving forward" because "they'd like to avoid couples' therapy, if possible".

And now The Mirror has asked senior therapist and relationship expert Sally Baker from Working On The Body about Harry and Meghan's getaway, and if it was needed for them to reconnect. Speaking exclusively to us, Sally revealed: "It's often said that geography is not the solution when a relationship is experiencing problems or hitting roadblocks. And that's generally true - moving or traveling to a new destination will not magically resolve underlying issues."

However, she did note that "for relationships that are not in crisis mode, a change of scenery and break from regular routines can provide a beneficial reset and rejuvenation".

She added that couples immersing themselves in a fresh environment away from home can reboot their energy and perspective. "A trip together to a luxury destination allows you to focus on each other without the distractions of work, chores, social obligations," she noted.

Sally went on to add: "Exploring a new place side-by-side also creates shared experiences that can enhance intimacy and communication. Destination holidays are much more effective at relationship enrichment than just talking about problems. Ideally, investing in regular getaways can nourish intimacy and prevent stagnation, getting any partnership to a healthier place before issues arise."
