Kim's home has divided her fans

Kim Kardashian has been on the receiving end of some harsh criticism after before and after pictures of her $60 million Los Angeles mansion were released.

In a post on Houses of Celebs on Instagram, the Skims founder’s home was featured, alongside a series of snaps showing the interior of the home, versus how it looks now. However, fans weren’t too impressed with the overhaul, with many comparing the home to an “insane asylum”. One commented: “Removed any signs of life,” while another added: “Waste of money. Poor kids are going to grow up in a psychiatric hospital.”

Kim and then-husband Kanye West bought the Hidden Hills property in 2014 for a cool $20 million, but spent years - and millions of dollars - transforming the space into a minimalist’s dream, complete with all-white walls, cream furniture and rooms solely dedicated to priceless artwork.

After they purchased the property, Kim and Kanye ended up living with her mum Kris Jenner during the renovations, and finally moved into their home in 2017. During a tour of the house with Architectural Digest, Kim described her and the rapper’s interiors as “everything we do is an art installation and a playroom.”

One room is dedicated to a huge Isabel Rower sculpture, while the hallways feature lowered ceilings painted to give the effect of cream stone. The palatial mansion’s previous interiors were ripped out by Kim and Kanye’s design team, and the original black and white living room, complete with fireplace, was replaced by a beige room that just houses a white piano.

The property’s wooden beams were painted over in white, and the tiled floors are now an expensive white Italian marble instead. The dining room looked homely and cosy before, but once the former couple put their unique spin on it, it was transformed into something that resembled a doctors’ waiting room. The huge curved cream dining table was surrounded by white fabric chairs, with spare chairs eerily lined up against the walls.

Kim and Kanye ripped down walls to create a more open-plan living space, with the main bedrooms transformed into a huge walk-through room, in which you can see the stunning bathroom from the massive bed. The kitchen was another room that underwent a serious overhaul, and not only does Kim boast a “show kitchen”, she also has a “staff kitchen” for her personal chefs.

The kitchen solely for Kim’s employees is a massive underground room, full to the brim of restaurant-grade stoves and walk-in fridges, including a room that is just for healthy snacks. There’s even a shelf that her kids North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm can reach so they can help themselves to “healthy snacks”, and she said he was forced to be so organised in her kitchen because she has a lot of people to cater for.

"It's so necessary to be extra organised when having four kids who all have different dietary needs, dairy sensitivities, and different likes and dislikes," Kim told Poosh in 2020. "Also, we have friends and family over all the time and need to be aware of different sensitivities, allergies, and diets, such as gluten-free or nut allergies, so it's important to have things organised at all times."
