Britney speaks out on book as ex-husband claims she lied about boozy wedding
Britney Spears has finally spoken out about her new book The Woman In Me as her ex-husband claimed she lied about their boozy wedding.
The 41-year-old pop icon is celebrating after the release of her memoir on Tuesday, and took to social media to reveal some exciting news, telling fans the book has already topped the bestseller list in the US. “It’s happening !!! My book is the highest selling celebrity memoir in history and it’s only day 1!!! Thank you to the fans who have been so supportive !!! Love you all !!! #TheWomanInMe @gallerybooks @simonandschuster,” Britney wrote on Instagram.
The Toxic hitmaker was delighted that her memoir is at the top of Amazon’s Best Sellers and Barnes and Noble’s Best Sellers list less than 24 hours after it hit shelves. Her celebration comes after her ex-husband Jason Alexander hit out at the Grammy-winning singer for allegedly lying about their brief union back in 2004.

The couple’s union lasted only 55 hours as the marriage was annulled and, luckily, Britney avoided paying out millions to her short-lived husband as the singer had neglected to sign a prenup.

In her new book, the mum-of-two said she was “bored” and “drunk” so decided to get married. “People have asked me if I loved him. To be clear: he and I were not in love. I was just honestly very drunk -- and probably, in a more general sense at that time in my life, very bored,” she wrote, adding that the pair “got sh**faced” before the nuptials.

He claimed he still loves Britney, and they were sober when they wed (PA)Jason has since fired back at her allegations, and said they tied the knot because they were in love, and denied they had been drinking. Talking to TMZ, he said they’ve been friends since they were kids, and still loves her, despite her marrying two other men since they split.
His claims echoed that of the wedding officiant who married Britney and Jason, as they described the couple as being in love and sober.
Furious, Jason said he has refused to buy her book, but would accept a signed copy so he could “sell it to the highest bidder”.
In her memoir, Britney recalled her family’s anger over her last-minute wedding - to which she wore a pair of jeans and a black crop top - but insisted the union was nothing more than “innocent fun”. She also revealed their reaction to her marriage was "like I'd started World War III”.
