Body language expert believes Tyson Fury is "nervous" over Francis Ngannou fight

Tyson Fury has been labelled as "nervous" by a body language expert before his crossover fight against Francis Ngannou on Saturday.

Heavyweight champion Fury exudes confidence in the lead-up to his fights but he is currently showing signs of uneasiness, according to body language expert Inbaal Honigman. The first face-off between Fury and Ngannou took place after their launch press conference in London last month and Honigman explained why Fury's actions in the staredown are very different to his words on the microphone.

“During their face-off interview, Fury is playful, acting up, showing a childlike, nervous energy, bouncing and joking. His movements are erratic - rubbing his nose which could indicate nervousness, whipping his hat on and off his head which shows that he's distracted. When he talks, however, he is a totally different man - he speaks with an even tone, calm facial expressions, raised eyebrows which mean he's engaged with his interviewer. This separate persona is strong and full of faith," she told .

“Fury isn't embarrassed to admit that he’s nervous - he's jittery, jumpy, and generally showing himself to be on edge. Their humorous official promo is interesting, as it demonstrates their unique characteristics. Although they're equally focused and strong, Fury's unique personality as it is shown, is his bouncy playfulness, and Francis Ngannou's unique personality as it is demonstrated, is his temper. In the ring, Ngannou's ferocious approach will be met with Fury's comical one.”

Fury has already signed to fight Oleksandr Usyk in an undisputed heavyweight title fight that could take place as soon as December 23, depending on the outcome of his fight against Ngannou. The former UFC champion hopes to ruin any chance of Fury fighting Usyk before the end of the year by pulling off one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.

Honigman complimented Ngannou's body language as she believes the knockout artist is ready for the big task in front of him. “Ngannou's manner during the face-off is business-like. He doesn't move his body or face unnecessarily, he's got his hands laced in front of his body, which means he is composed, confident, while still not underestimating his opponent," she added.

"He assumes the mannerisms of a headmaster, about to school an errant pupil. Ngannou is again calm, but some nerves show, in the way that he clutches the microphone, he is tense, with his hand tightly wound around it, and in the way that he licks his lips frequently, trying to soothe his nerves.”
