Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were reportedly 'tetchy' with each other as their marriage it put 'under strain', with the couple heading off on a trip to the Caribbean without their children to try and 'reignite the spark'.

A source has revealed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's recent trip to Canouan in St Vincent and the Grenadines earlier this month was actually an attempt to 'avoid couple's therapy' as they find their five year marriage under scrutiny. The couple flew by private jet from New Jersey to the Caribbean island Canouan, and then onto Atlanta in Georgia.

The trip without their two children, son Archie and daughter Lilibet, comes as the couple were said to be "under so much scrutiny at all times".

A source told Heat magazine the trip just for the two of them was "very much Harry's idea" and that he wanted to head off together to "try and reignite the spark between them" and "figure out a plan moving forward". The source shared: "They'd like to avoid couple's therapy, if possible," and added: "It's not like they're in crisis, but like everyone, they have their issues and they need some quality time together. The intensity and scale of the stress they face can make them very tetchy, especially as they're under so much scrutiny at all times."

The source continued to say the trip was a success with the couple having fun and making time for "deep talks" to iron out issues. However, a body language expert has said their closeness on holiday has been replaced by a "separated look" one they returned home and "showed signs of tension". Judi James explained: "There's no sign of any lingering post-holiday glow from Meghan's body language here and that romantic, idyllic hand-in-hand pose we saw from Harry and Meghan as they strolled through deserted streets seems to have been replaced by a more separated look as Meghan rushes ahead across the tarmac, leaving Harry to chat to someone as he trails behind."

James added: "Meghan's unsmiling facial expression and her directive pointing suggest tension here and a desire to rush into the car. Harry appears to be in less of a rush although the way both his elbows are raised as he walks could suggest some matching inner tension here."

The pair's couple vacation saw them visit Canouan in St Vincent and the Grenadines, both of which are regularly visited by the likes of Amal and George Clooney, Robert Downey Jr., Amy Schumer, Mark Wahlberg and Leonardo DiCaprio. Accommodation on the island includes the Canouan Estate Resort and Villas, the Mandarin Oriental, and the Soho Beach House Canouan. Rooms at the lavish resorts start at $837 (£686) and rise to more than $9000-a-night (£7,300).

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle married in 2018, before stepping back from the royal family in 2020 and moving over to the USA as they stepped back from 'The Firm'.
