Strictly Come Dancing stars are gearing up for a “spook-tacular” Saturday night this weekend – but fans have the same complaint.

The BBC show has released the Halloween songs and dances for week six teasing: “Who’s ready for a spook-tacular Saturday night? It’s finally time to reveal out fiendishly good Halloween routines! #Strictly,” followed by a ghost emoji. But fans aren’t impressed with the song choices, given the theme. One pointed out: “Aren’t they supposed to be spooky songs?” A second Strictly viewer agreed as they chimed in: “Same thought!”

Further expressing their disappointment, a third fan wrote: “Only a couple of ‘Halloween’ songs there. Where’s the Monster Mash, Thriller, Halloween theme song?” A fourth replied: “They already did them but yeah, I agree. There’s plenty of other Halloween or horror music they could dance to! I get they want to keep it kid friendly but this is ridiculous!”

Agreeing, a fifth commented: “Yeah none of these songs really give the classic Halloween vibes.” While a sixth said: “Right? A bit bummed there aren’t any classics in there.”

Former Coronation Street actress Ellie Leach and pro partner Vito Coppola probably have the most Halloween themed song this week as they are set to perform a Salsa to Murder On The Dancefloor by Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Documentary maker Zara McDermott and Graziano Di Prima will dance a Charleston to Jeepers Creepers by Al Donahue and his Orchestra.

Other songs that seemed to fit the “spook-tacular” showcase include Bad Education star Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin, who will dance a Tango to Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo. Irish TV presenter Angela Scanlon and Carlos Gu will perform a Paso Doble to BLACK swan SWAN lake by District 78.

While veteran TV star – and Strictly’s oldest ever contestant at the age of 79- Angela Rippon and Kai Widdrington will be performing a Charleston to Murder She Wrote (TV Theme). But some song choices didn’t appear to be anything to do with Halloween at all, such as Waterloo Road star Adam Thomas and Luba Mushtuk’s American Smooth to Magic Moments by Perry Como.

Similarly, Channel 4 newsreader Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Lauren Oakley will dance a Viennese Waltz to Kiss From A Rose by Seal. Ex-British tennis star Annabel Croft and Johannes Radebe will dance a Tango to Need U Tonight by INXS.

Actor Nigel Harman and Katya Jones will perform a Cha Cha Cha to I Was Made For Lovin’ You by KISS. While EastEnders star Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell are set to dance a Cha Cha Cha to Come-On-A-My House by Della Reese, which mentions candy so was likely picked for trick or treat purposes rather than being scary.

Given their verdict on the song choices, one fan said: “Best song chosen is Vampire... a song like Creeper like America At Night would have been perfect for a Viennese Waltz.” Another fan suggested: “Nigel better be in full KISS get up!”
