Britney Spears turned to taking drugs in 'underground club' after Justin split

Britney Spears has admitted to taking drugs amid her devastation over her split from Justin Timberlake.

Reflecting on the immediate months following her split, Britney said she found herself "living in New York City alone for months". The pop princess lived in a luxurious four-storey NoHo apartment that she says "Cher used to live in".

She recalled in her memoir how it "would have been a dream apartment to use as a home base to explore the city, but I hardly ever left the place". But despite largely spending most of her time at home, Britney did say she was able to go out "on rare occasions".

She said one night her cousin took her to a "sexy underground club". At the venue, Britney recalls taking "a couple of hits from a joint, my first time taking pot". Britney said that after attending the club later that night she walked through the city, "breaking one of my heels along the way".

After snapping her shoes, Britney says she went back to her apartment and went up on the terrace and "looked up at the stars for hours". She remarked how she then "felt one with New York".

Justin is said to have dumped Britney via a two-word text message when she was filming the music video for Overprotected: The Dark Child remix.

The former N*SYNC star reportedly messaged Britney and simply said: "It's over!!!", PageSix reported. At the time, it was reported that Justin had dumped Britney after she cheated on him with choreographer Wade Robson.

But in Britney's memoir, while she doesn't deny she was unfaithful, she also claims that Justin had cheated on her "several times". Justin is yet to publicly address the allegations but Entertainment Tonight reported he "has been focusing on his own family and trying not to concern himself with Britney’s memoir".

Ahead of her memoir being released, Britney deactivated her Instagram page on Friday following the rumour-mill going into overdrive about what could be included within The Woman in Me.

Before she deleted it, The Stronger singer shared a post, which read: "My book's purpose was not to offend anyone by any means. I don't like the headlines I am reading... that's exactly why I quit the business four years ago! Most of the book is from 20 years ago... I have moved on and it's a beautiful clean slate from here!!!"

She continued: "I am here to establish it that way for the rest of my entire life! Either way, that is the last of it and sh*t happens! This is actually a book I didn't know needed to be written ... although some might be offended, it has given me closure on all things for a better future!!"

Britney also went on to explain that the purpose of the book was to "enlighten people who particularly feel alone in most cases or hurt or understood".

She added: "Again my motive for this book was not to harp on my past experiences," as she concluded: "I have moved on since then." Britney reinstated her Instagram account on Saturday.
