The Portuguese defender had previously been earmarked as a potential replacement for Harry Maguire for this year, but the former United captain remained at Old Trafford after his transfer to West Ham broke down despite the club’s agreeing a £30million deal.
A report in Portuguese outlet A Bola has detailed how Liverpool scouted the Portugal international during last week’s international clash at Bosnia, where they won 5-0. The 22-year-old now appears to be at the heart of a transfer battle between the two clubs.

Small groups of City fans were heard singing offensive chants about Charlton during their clash against Brighton on Saturday, prompting complaints from fellow Blues. A video circulating on social media showed one such chant being sung on an Etihad Stadium concourse.
