Britney Spears has revealed that she learned of the global #FreeBritney movement while "locked up" in rehab, with the singer recounting how she thought it was "amazing".

The singer, 41, is gearing up for the release of her bombshell memoir, with a number of revelations coming to light in excerpts released ahead of the upcoming book's release. Amid a number of claims in her book such as the singer having an abortion after falling pregnant with Justin Timberlake's baby, and revealing the reason behind her racy nude snaps, she has also addressed the #FreeBritney movement.

Recalling her stint in a Beverly Hills rehab centre, the singer, who was placed under a conservatorship following a series of mental health breakdowns, emotionally recounted how she was "locked against her will" for a number of months. She also spoke of how she couldn't even take a bath alone, before recalling the moment she learned of the movement sparked by her fans.

From 2008 until 2021, Britney's fans banded together to bring more awareness to the singer's conservatorship. And in 2018, Britney herself even tried to fight against the conservatorship before being put under even more mental health evaluations and another rehab stay.

“My father said that if I didn’t go, then I’d have to go to court, and I’d be embarrassed,” she writes in her new book, according to People Magazine. She said: "They kept me locked up against my will for months," before noting how she had to be supervised while bathing.

And while she was in the facility, a nurse showed the her videos of fans who had organised to support her and were questioning the need for her conservatorship. The outlet reports that within the memoir, Britney pens: "That was the most amazing thing I’d ever seen in my life. I don’t think people knew how much the #FreeBritney movement meant to me, especially in the beginning."

Britney was released from her court-ordered conservatorship in November 2021. The singer had endured 13-years of being under the conservatorship before it was terminated.
