Britney Spears claims ITV axed Conservatorship discussion from major TV show

Britney Spears has claimed ITV cut all mention of her Conservatorship from a 2016 broadcast of The Jonathan Ross Show.

The pop princess is set to finally share her side of the story following years of being locked in a tricky Conservatorship battle, controlled by her dad Jamie. Over the years, Britney's personal and professional life was put into the hands of others following her public breakdown in 2007.

Now, the 41-year-old is free to handle her own life two years after the conservatorship came to an end in November 2021. However, it's claimed she had attempted to address it prior to fans championing the Free Britney movement.

During her stint in the UK to promote her Glory album in 2016, Britney appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show which airs on the ITV network. Writing in her forthcoming memoir, The Woman In Me, the Womanizer singer said: "I even mentioned the Conservatorship on a talk show in 2016, but somehow that part of the interview didn’t make it to the air. Huh. How interesting."

Sources claim that the mystery TV programme is the ITV show which saw Britney discuss her career as well as exchanging emails with Prince William. While fans have previously praised Jonathan's conversation with the Princess of Pop, sources claim she spoke at length about her life being handled by other people.

The Sun reports that Britney said: "I have this Conservatorship for years and I felt like a lot of decisions were made for me so I wanted this to be my baby and I've been really strategic about it." Meanwhile, sources told the outlet that Britney's comments sparked concern amongst bosses.

"The fact Britney raised it on one of the biggest shows in the UK set off alarm bells," a source said before adding: "A series of meetings quickly took place as to how to control the situation - the priority switched to keeping the comments off the air." It's claimed that ITV "played ball" and removed all mention of the Conservatorship.

In her upcoming memoir, Spears isn't holding back and has opened up about her previous relationships including her most famous with fellow singer Justin Timberlake, as well as having an abortion during their relationship. While she may have hoped to keep the contents of The Woman In Me under wraps until its official release date, some fans have already got their hands on it.

This comes after the hitmaker's Instagram page seemingly vanished after she urged that she '"didn't mean to offend anyone" with her new memoir, The Woman In Me. When you click on Britney's Instagram page on a web browser, it says: "Sorry, this page isn't available. The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed," which appears to reveal that she has deactivated her page.

Britney's sudden deactivation of her account came just hours after she issued a statement where she apologised for "upsetting" fans with the revelations from the released excerpts from her book. She said: "My book's purpose was not to offend anyone by any means. I don't like the headlines I am reading... that's exactly why I quit the business four years ago! Most of the book is from 20 years ago... I have moved on and it's a beautiful clean slate from here!!!"

She went on: "I am here to establish it that way for the rest of my entire life! Either way, that is the last of it and sh*t happens! This is actually a book I didn't know needed to be written ... although some might be offended, it has given me closure on all things for a better future!!"

The Mirror has approached ITV for comment.
