Bruno Fernandes sends plea to Man Utd team-mates over 'Fergie Time'

Bruno Fernandes has urged his Manchester United team-mates to try and avoid a repeat of the late dramatics that saw them beat Brentford prior to the international break.

The Red Devils were trailing at Old Trafford before second-half substitute Scott McTominay struck twice in additional time to complete a remarkable turnaround. The last-gasp goals were reminiscent of the scenarios that would often play out during the legendary reign of Sir Alex Ferguson - so much so that added-on time was rebranded 'Fergie Time'.

And while everybody of a United persuasion was grateful for McTominay's late impact, Fernandes has challenged his team-mates to make sure the game is won well before that time rolls around again when they travel to Sheffield United on Saturday night.

Speaking to ManUtd.com before the game, the United captain said: “We've seen away games, home games for when they give that kind of push, that kind of support, we get the results even when it's at the end of the game.

“As everyone knows here at United, ‘Fergie Time’ is always on, so I think the fans have a feeling from last season that we could do that and I think this season we showed again that we can do it, but obviously we want to win the games as soon as possible and not leave it until the last minute. But if we have to and if you have to win that way, we are going to win.”

After overseeing the club's worst start to a season in 37 years, Erik ten Hag will be hoping his side can build on that dramatic win over Brentford after the break. And Fernandes believes that result will give United a much-needed confidence boost.

He added: “I think everyone now understands that that moment was really big for us. The boost of confidence, as I said before, but we all know it's normal as fans that sometimes you can get frustrated by the result, by the team, whatever it is.

“But it's up to us players to make them happy, to make them enjoy our game, to make them go in to work the next day and be happy because their team won. We understand when it's not going their way, but I think overall the fans are always behind us, supporting us all through.”

United head to Bramall Lane with Sheffield United currently rock bottom of the Premier League with just a single point from their opening eight games.
