Emmerdale legend quits ITV soap after 25 years as she announces future plans
Emmerdale legend Samantha Giles has confirmed she is departing the ITV soap.
Samantha - who plays Bernice Blackstock on the show - has announced she will leave her role, 25 years after her first appearance as the divisive character. Not much is known about her exit from the soap, but she did confirm when she'd be leaving.
She appeared on This Morning today with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary where she discussed her love of witchcraft. Towards the end of their chat, she was asked if she was leaving the soap. She confirmed that she was and hadn't announced it officially yet, but would be heading off for a different career for the time being.

At the moment, Bernice is laying low on the soap, having been part of the big revelation that Nicky is gay and didn't want to go through with his wedding to Bernice's daughter Gabby. Samantha has opened up to The Mirror in the past about her own experience with the menopause. Telling us, she said: " I think it is important to be open about stuff like that, because someone else might think, 'I was feeling like that, too'. Sometimes it just reminds you that, actually, you're not going mad, it's just hormones."

Samantha Giles has confirmed she is leaving EmmerdaleAsked how people have responded to the story so far, she added: "At the beginning, it was a bit mixed as some people were wondering why they had given this story to a "comedy" character. But I think that's the point.
"This happens to everyone, even someone like Bernice. Just because she's a fun character, it doesn't mean that she won't be dealing with something like this and it won't be really debilitating."
Bernice made the announcement on This Morning today (ITV)Bernice also revealed what she enjoys away from the soap, explaining she loves yoga and exercise.
"I like exercise and I do yoga at home. As a family, we like to go out for walks but my eldest isn't so keen now. We do love to travel, but I imagine this will be the last year my eldest will come on holiday. We might plump for somewhere like France, she likes French at school so hopefully she'll be keener as she can practise!" she explained.
