Shearer calls out 'underperforming' Arsenal star as Jorginho makes 'ego' claim

Mikel Arteta has welcomed his Arsenal stars back from international duty ahead of another crucial Premier League game for his side on Saturday.

The Gunners go to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Saturday evening. Following their win over Manchester City on October 8, Arsenal are currently level on points with north London rivals Spurs at the top, and yet, could be down to fourth place by the time they kick-off at 5.30pm.

Mercifully for the Spaniard, Arteta has no fresh injury worries from the latest round of international fixtures. Fans however will be anxious over whether forward Bukayo Saka will be making a return following his recent injury lay-off. Mirror Football rounds up the main headlines coming out of the Emirates in the last 24 hours.

Shearer slams striker Jesus

Alan Shearer has taken aim at Gabriel Jesus for "consistently underperforming" at Arsenal with his goal return short of what has been expected.

He told The Athletic: "Without wishing to pick on him, he has consistently been underperforming his xG over the past few years." Jesus has scored three times this season, although only one of those has come in the league when the north Londoners saw off Manchester United 3-1.

Analysing a big miss in the north London derby against Spurs, which the Brazilian fired over Jesus said: "A load of my goals were struck firmly and weren't more difficult to control. But this is another example of leaning back for a shot; Jesus’ body and technique are all wrong."

Jorginho makes 'ego' claim

Jorginho believes Arsenal have a "special" group of players because there are no egos in the dressing room. Ahead of facing his former club Chelsea, the Italian star told Arsenal's website: "We are very, very close as a team. I can feel it is a special group because it’s a humble group of boys who all have their minds open to learn, to listen, to improve and to give opinions, too.

‌"So as long as we don’t put our individual ego in front of the team, this group can be special. I see it can be that way, and I hope the egos never take over. I hope the team always comes first because then the enjoyment is way bigger than just being an individual.

Arsenal flop set for shock Bayern move

Bayern Munich are weighing up a shock move for former Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos as they try to minimise the impact of a growing injury crisis.

Sokratis, 35, has been without a club since the summer following his departure from Greek side Olympiacos. Given the transfer window is now closed until January, Bayern's hands are tied if they want short-term options, with the club only able to sign free agents until the new year.

As expected, it is believed that Sokratis is keen on the idea of plying his trade for Bayern and has already rejected an approach from La Liga outfit Real Betis because of their interest. The Bundesliga champions go to Mainz on Saturday.
