With energy costs sky high, many people are looking for ways to lower their household bills and limiting the time spent at home with the heating on is often a priority. But, as the cold weather creeps in, this can be difficult to do - especially for those who work from home.

Finding alternative and affordable ways to keep warm this winter is a practical solution to this problem and a great place to start is by investing in an electric blanket.

Amazon shoppers are raving about a Mia&Coco heated throw that is "exceptionally cheap to run" costing a few pennies an hour to use, and is even "able to stay warm after turning it off." The flannel and sherpa blanket normally costs £89, but it has been reduced by 57% in the Amazon deal, now on offer for £38.39.

Available in five colours, the budget-friendly throw features ten temperature levels and a timing setting which allows users to choose when the heated blanket automatically shuts off. It's machine-washable with a detachable cord, and as it is made from a premium feel soft material, shoppers report that "even without turning the heating on, it's very thick and snuggly and keeps you warm."

The heated throw has attracted over 3,500 five star reviews on Amazon with one customer saying: "I've had this for almost a year now and it's one of the best purchases I made. Super cosy, warm and a nice size."

Other impressed shoppers were praising this product for its affordability to run as it is perfect for those conscious of rising energy bills. One person said: "I like to use it when I am working at my desk and it keeps me toasty warm. On the electricity bill front, it is cheap as chips. The other day, I kept it on for 4 hours straight and it cost me 20 pence."

They did mention however, that the "high setting can get extremely hot", and someone else commented that is was "great providing you aren't super tall," so those are factors to be aware of.

A third shopper said it cost them "around 1p an hour on low, 2p an hour on the medium setting, and 5p an hour on high at the current standard variable electricity unit rates." Another user said that their "smart meter only went up by 10 pence after 4 hours."

Alternatively, the Silentnight Comfort Control Electric Blanket is £29.99 from Boots, and the Dreamland Alaskan Husky Faux Fur Heated Throw has been reduced by £30 on Lakeland.

Other ways people have found to keep warm without having to put the heating on is by using a 'one penny trick', revealed by Martin Lewis, and snuggling up with a blanket hoodie. We reviewed one by popular brand Oodie for Mirror Choice and found that it "really helped cut the amount the heating that is on during the day."
