Inside Britney Spears and Justin's dark relationship from abortion to betrayal
Britney Spears dropped the shocking bombshell that she had an abortion with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake in her new memoir The Woman in Me. The pair were together for three years and were first seen as the new darlings of music.
However, their break-up came about after it was reported that Britney had cheated on Justin. While Justin saw his career go from strength to strength as he seemingly used his heartbreak to power his songs, Britney was blamed for her part in their split.

In extracts of the book seen by People Magazine, Britney writes that her then-boyfriend "wasn't happy" when she told him she was pregnant. She claims he said they weren't ready to be parents, which led to her ending the pregnancy.
In extracts published in the magazine, Britney writes: "But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young."
Cry Me A River
After their 2002 split, NSYNC star Justin retaliated with his breakout solo track, Cry Me A River, featuring a Britney lookalike with her signature pageboy hat, implying that she'd betrayed him. The song is about catching an ex cheating and refusing to take her back.
There have been many rumours but no evidence that either Britney or Justin cheated on each other during their relationship. And it appears Britney isn't bitter about the false claims as an insider told US Weekly that she doesn't want her fans to "release the hounds" on her former lover as she "doesn't hold a grudge".

The insider continued that the Toxic singer does not "dwell" on the the fact their relationship ended and feels that "they were young and in love and both did stupid things when they were together."
Shock split
In March of 2002, Britney revealed that she was "not in an intense relationship with anyone," leading many to believe that the pair split. Britney later revealed that their breakup was a mutual decision that they came to amid troubles doing long distance with their jam-packed schedules.
Later during the summer, after the couple's relationship was confirmed to be over, Justin opened up about his heartache. At the time he told People: "It hurts too bad. You get to a point when you're crying yourself to sleep every night. I feel like I'm in the middle of a soap opera. I honestly know what it's like to have a broken heart," and added: "I love Britney, and I'll always love her."
The pair endured a shocking splitIn an emotional US TV interview, a then 21-year-old Britney was asked about his claims, insisting: "I think everyone has a side of their story, to make them feel a certain way. I'm not technically saying he's wrong. But I'm not technically saying he's right either."
Asked what it was that she'd supposedly done by ABC's Diane Sawyer, the fragile singer kept her answer vague, explaining: "I was upset, I was upset for a little while. I think we were both really young. And it was kind of waiting to happen. I will always love him. He will always have a special place in my heart. He's such a great person."

But it was questions about the actual split that reduced the singer to tears in heartbreaking scenes. Conceding that their all too public parting had been 'pretty rough', when asked how it felt to split from Justin, her eyes brimmed with tears as she replied: "Yeah, it was kind of weird. Weird. Hello. Um, oh my goodness."
Unable to stop her sobs, she begged the interviewer to move on. "I'm embarrassed. Can we stop?" she pleaded.
Tarnishing Britney's reputation
Justin was accused of "tarnishing" her appearance after they famously split in March 2002. As a teenager during the height of her fame, Britney was sexualised after publicly declaring she was a virgin.
And later throughout her adult life, she was bombarded with interviews about her whether she had remained a virgin during her romance with Justin. However the songstress continued to maintain she was still a virgin, but her ex suggested otherwise during interviews after their split.

She was at the height of her career at the timeReflecting on his actions, Justin issued a grovelling apology to Britney in 2021. The statement came following the release of the Framing Britney Spears documentary that put his treatment of the troubled singer under the spotlight.
Justin said he was aware of the torrent of criticism being directed at him and wanted to issue a heartfelt apology to both Britney and Janet for his past behaviour. In part of the statement, he said: "I specifically want to apologise to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed.
"I also feel compelled to respond, in part, because everyone involved deserves better and most importantly, because this is a larger conversation that I wholeheartedly want to be part of and grow from..."
